George fussed about my footwear when checking in (soft soled doc martens) and wanted me to take them off because he said they have expensive wool carpets. Didn't explain use of gas fire properly so I ended up burning my hand later that night. They offered an alternative to the meal I selected as they didn't have lamb shanks I wanted, but never told me they'd be changing the sauce (to one I'd specifically avoided other meal choices for and it was unpalatable) or that alternative option of food would cost more (although adjusted price when I mentioned this). The creme brulee was still mostly granulated sugar with patches of burnt sugar rather than a caramelized hard topping. The spa was the one saving grace to the whole experience. Overall I found it a bit stiff and formal, perhaps travelling alone makes it odd as sitting in a formal dining room all by oneself is weird. Eating it in the room where it would feel far more homely was apparently not an option. Gillian and George are lovely people but don't seem to communicate the processes (which they are obviously used to) very well making things feel stilted. I was disappointed as description of the property mentions private patio, there is no such thing. I was hoping to sit outside in a little haven but it's really just a small verandah area leading to the doors of house and suites with a small table and chairs outside each suite entry, facing a big hedge.

Hi Lorna, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Yes we are fussy very fussy as we strive to maintain a high standard of quality furnishings, fittings and cleanliness as this is our home and to meet client expectations who generally appreciate what is on offer, respect and cooperate towards maintaining these standards. We meet and great all our house guests upon arrival, show them into their suite and explain how to use the open gas log fire, t.v. and spa bath, any house guest who encounters any problems only has to ask and we attend. We are the only B&B in WA that we are aware of that offers house guests evening al a carte dining and whilst the lamb shanks were out of stock we served the lamb rump dish which you had accepted as an alternative. We are sorry that you did not enjoy either the lamb or creme brulee. We were pleased that you enjoyed your private indoor rain water spa. We are sorry that you felt uncomfortable sitting in a dining room by yourself but unfortunately we didn't have any other house guests staying that night. The property description does not mention a private patio, however each of our two guests suites have a table and two chairs outside the door on a shady verandah, otherwise guests can relax in our landscaped gardens where seating is also provided.

George and Gillian were very welcoming. Our room was really comfortable and cozy and after a long drive the hot bath was very welcome. Our evening meal was just beautifully prepared and presented. Complimentary wine was an unexpected delight. Our breakfast was beautiful also. We would have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation to other travellers.

Historic elegance with spa

Pros: Historic landmark and helpful hosts.
Cons: Next time we'll stay for an evening meal.
Hosts George and Gill were helpful and accommodating. The room was large, well furnished and featured antiques and historical curiosities. A hot spa and a comfortable bed after a day on the road. The breakfast was full and served with tasty home-made treats. The historic inn is well-presented throughout and is a memorable stop nearby to many south-west towns.

Pros: Cleanliness and comfort, room size and appointments, welcome of the owners
Location: Wineries, a truffle farm, beautiful country drives
I loved staying at the Blackwood Inkeepers Inn. The B & B was amazing and so well thought out. The food was delicious, carefully prepared by owner Gillian, beautifully presented on fine china in a delightful dining room and generously served by owner George. We didn't even have to pour our wine glasses as George would miraculously appear when the glasses were low. Our very hospitable hosts, George and Gillian, provide a welcoming and extremely plush experience for weary travelers. There's also so much to do in the surrounding area. Next time, I plan for us to stay longer.

Best Pizza Across The Road

Pros: I loved that the owner was so kind in recommending the lovely pizza and pasta art gallery across the road from the B&B
Cons: No water jug / no cold water in le fridge. MAKE SURE you do not put any burnt matches for the fire place back in the matchbox! Hyacinth Bucket.
Location: This B&B is out by itself, aside from the lovely pizza & past art gallery across the road. Nearby Bridgetown offers about 7 places for dinner & 4 pubs
Had the best pizza I have ever had at the pizza and pasta art gallery place across the road.
