Caves House is a beautiful old hotel built in the 1920s. It oozes nostalgia and elegance but, in the 21st Century, it is in much need of an upgrade. I was told by a staff member that exactly that is about to happen with a $20 million upgrade. The style and feel will be maintained as it is a Heritage listed building. We stayed in the Mountain Lodge building up the hill. Parking was further up the hill. Very steep access. The room did not have air conditioning (just fans and heaters), no table, no cover over the light and one lamp light bulb was out. We arrived exhausted after the drive down the mountain in heavy snow and, after getting a bite to eat (the café is very basic), we asked if we might be able to check in early. We were told that the room still needed to be cleaned. They suggested we wait in the guest lounge and they would tell us when it would be available. They never did. We could hear conversations from the front desk from where we were sitting and a woman was making criticisms and rude comments after every phone call enquiry. Their website says that you have to book for the restaurant prior to arriving, which we did but we were forced to do it again and also to choose out meals from a list on a piece of paper and put it in a box. Also for breakfast. Caves House is the only hotel at Jenolan Caves so it's a monopoly. It's their way or the highway. For such an elegant hotel, their professionalism leaves a lot to be desired.

We had a great time. The food was fantastic, staff are helpful, and the room was very neat, tidy, well presented. Very well maintained in the olde Victorian feeling, and lots of history to catch up on. Even though the caves are not open currently four stay was grand. Thanks 😊 we will be back when the caves are again open

The location is great. Really peaceful place. The rooms were spacious .The caves were closed but there were nice walks to take with the kids. We saw kangaroos, rock wallabies and a platypus.

Food in Chisolm's restaurant is great but they are very short staffed. The room we stayed in (King) was large and the bed was very comfortable. Blind didn't go up so couldn't see much of the greenery outside... staff at reception are lovely. Turns out being a very expensive weekend away though...

Great to see Caves house back up and running after bushfires! Wonderful character, helpful staff, and although an aging building it's aging with grace!

Not great! Wanted to support them after the fires, but service was indifferent, room keys didn’t work which meant a trek up a long hill and back to reception to get them changed. Room was hot with no fan or air con- windows were broken and wouldn’t open, screens ripped, overall dirty, unkept. Had to request room change due to heat - this was accommodated, however next room equally dirty and had an exploded 250ml carton of long life milk in the cupboard which stunk, the microwave was mouldy and unclean, privacy blind in bathroom was broken so had to use the kettle to weigh it down, windows and screens in this room also broken. They called before we checked in to advise the Restaurant’s last seating was 6.30pm. We were only arriving then so they grudgingly said they could hold a booking for 7pm. It had 12 patrons and it took over an hour for our food to come. Service was indifferent and food very average. I asked if the Pork Belly was with crackling or soft skin- was told that was up to the chef. I asked for clarification and was told the seasonal chef was different from the regular chef so she didn’t know. No offer to go find out. And when I suggested it, she said she didn’t know and perhaps I could order something else?!?!? Creme brûlée was liquid in a cup served with burnt biscuits. Extremely disappointed. Ps. You need to be aware of the level of fitness required to stay in this hotel. Steep hill, no elevators. Poorly lit at night and many dangerous obstacles to negotiate.
