Overall a lovely overnight stay. Was expecting an open fireplace so the gas heater was a mild let down. Question regarding check in was not responded to.

Hi Tania Thanks for your review of our Moscato Cottage. The Moscato has a lovely ecosmart open fireplace which is not gas it is ethanol. It is classified as an open fireplace as it is not surrounded by a door or anything else. It has open flames. So by all intents and purposes it is an open fire. I did not receive an email regarding any checkin enquiries from Expedia so I am sorry if this was a problem. With all that is going on in the world and with coronavirus cancellations/refunds/rebookings for two businesses sometimes small things like this seem quite trivial. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay regardless.

The breakfast basket was fantastic, particularly the home made muesli

It was very expensive for its age and facilities (eg had to haul water up the stairs in a container for the evaporative air conditioner on the second floor). Difficult car access, especially reversing. Compared to Willunga accommodation (a very close town) this accommodation was not value for money. However, it was clean and a good was breakfast provided. It is also an attractive dwelling and décor, though somewhat dated and in moderate condition.

Thanks for your review. You must have stayed during very hot weather because the air conditioner upstairs is rarely used. In normal circumstances the air conditioner situated in the lounge room is more than sufficient to cool the entire premises. The area in front of the cottage allows easy access for one car to turn and drive from the house so I am at a loss to understand why you had trouble. Situated within walking distance to shops, restaurants and some cellar doors our bed and breakfast provides excellent value in the mid range price.

Beautiful old cottage

Beautiful old cottage (Moscato) Close to Centre of Mclaren vale. Tallish people will need to duck through the old small doors.

Hi Peter Thanks to your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Just to clarify the cottage which was built in the 1850s has only one low doorway. The height of the doorway is 5'10" and it is through a stone two foot deep wall - this is quite a feature from when people were shorter!! It certainly adds to the ambience of the old world cottage.

Quaint Cottage

We stayed in Moscato cottage which was built in the eighteen hundreds. Cottage nicely presented but very dusty. Not good for allergies. No door only curtain leading from bedroom into bathroom, very low doorways (hit head if tall). Nice breakfast. Staff accomodating.

Thank you for your review of the Moscato Cottage. As you said the cottage is a lovingly restored 1850s cottage. Part of the unique character of the cottage is ONE 5'10" doorway. All other doors are normal heights and the ceilings are 8 feet high. The large bathroom with a huge two person bath has two doorways one leading from the bedroom which is separated by a thick curtain and the other which leads to the breakfast room is a regular wooden door. Because of the layout of the cottage it is impossible to put two doors in. The property is on the rural side of Caffrey and is bordered by a picturesque paddock with olive trees and vineyards. The rooms meticulously cleaned after each stay however if doors are left open it is possible that dust does come in being so close to the paddock.
