| Stay in our Hanoi hotels and experience this amazing city rich with culture and history.
The city boasts a number of beautiful and fascinating pagodas that are worth visiting while staying in our Hanoi hotels. Lang Pagoda built in the Ly Than Tong Dynasty, between 1128 and 1138, boasts and ancient wooden and concrete gate bordered by stone elephants and beautifully shaded and peaceful courtyard. Next to Truc Bach Lake lies Quan Thanh Pagoda, built in the early 11th century. The Pagoda is dedicated to God Huyen Thien Tran Vo, who guarded the North, and the Pagoda boats a four ton bronze statue of the God, cast in 1677. Tay Ho Pagoda, located on a peninsula in the West Lake, is dedicated to Thanh Mau, the Mother Goddess. While staying in our Hanoi accommodation it is worth visiting the Temple of Literature. The temple was founded by King Ly Thanh Tong in 1070, to pay tribute to education and to those of high academic achievement. Six years after the temple was founded it became home to Hanoi's first university. The site is worth a visit as there are beautiful ancient pools filled with Lotus blossoms, a Sanctuary dedicated to Confucius filled with Chinese relics and live performances of traditional folk music. Experience scenes of Vietnamese history and folklore, while staying in our Hanoi hotels, by attending a performance at the Water Puppetry Theatre, located near the Ngoc San Pagoda. An indoor pond and colourful puppets are used to play out the folk tales, which are accompanied by traditional Vietnamese folk music. While staying in our Hanoi hotels visit the Old Quarter, which lies between the northern shore of Hoan Kiem Lake and the walls of the ancient Citadel. The Old Quarter, also known as the "Ancient Quarter" and the "36 streets" is the oldest part of the city and its economic hub. Each of the 36 little streets are named for commodity once sold by all the businesses on that street. While staying in our Hanoi hotels be sure to visit one of Vietnam's most revered places, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. The Mausoleum is located on the edge of Ba Dinh Square, where, in 1945, Ho Chi Minh delivered the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Viet Nam to half a million people. Although Ho Chi Minh requested to be cremated, like other communist leaders he was embalmed and is now on display in the Mausoleum. Also worth a visit is Ho Chi Minh’s House on Stilts, located just behind the Mausoleum. Built of teak, the house is where he lived and worked from 1958 to 1969. While staying in our Hanoi accommodation, visit Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Pagoda, and experience the area central to Hanoian folklore. The lake's name, Hoan Kiem, means "restored sword" and comes from a 15th century legend that tells of a magic sword that was presented to Emperor Le Loi by a giant turtle, to defeat the Chinese invaders. After his victory, in accordance with their pact, the Emperor returned the sword to the turtle and now Ngoc Son Pagoda, which stands on an islet in the centre of the lake, pays homage to the turtle. |
