One of the most popular places to visit near the town is the Mele Cascades waterfalls. For a small admission price visitors are free to swim in the beautiful water at the bottom of the falls and you can even walk all the way to the top for greater view of the area. For the brave there is even the option to abseil 50 metres down from the top of the waterfall to the bottom but just make sure you have a stomach for heights. To enrich that tropical island experience you have been craving after, a trip to Hideaway Island is highly recommended. Simply turn up with your swimming gear and a snorkel and enjoy the day roaming from beach to beach on the island admiring the coral and the shoals of brightly coloured fish. Embarking on an off-road adventure is another popular attraction while staying in one of our Port Vila hotels. This usually involves renting a four wheel drive vehicle within the town and then driving to some smaller local villages and stopping by at any of the beaches on the way. This offers an opportunity to see more of Efate and to catch a glimpse of the Polynesian way of life. Although for a greater understanding of traditional life it is worth heading to the National Cultural Centre which helps to illuminate the history of the island.
