England is loaded with history and Kent is no exception. As a traditional point of invasion into England, the county has seen plenty of intruders from the Romans to the German Luftwaffe. Some of the towns have also been used as settlements for thousands of years and one of those is Canterbury. A bit like a time machine into the past, Canterbury contains Roman ruins, Tudor houses and the famous UNESCO World Heritage site, Canterbury Cathedral. Probably the holiest building in England, it might be a good idea to stick to your best behaviour when visiting but if you feel the need to redress the balance with a bit of sin, we suggest a trip to nearby Faversham. Here the legendary Shepherd Neame brewery has been making fine English ales for over 300 years and a tour of the factory will put a spring in your step. We wouldn't blame you for spending a good part of your day here, in fact we'd recommend it.

Catch the rich Kent countryside on a sunny day and you'll be sucked in by the tranquil beauty. Named the Garden of England for good reason, it is bursting with fruit orchards and glorious landscapes. From your Kent hotel, pay a visit to the Kent Downs which stretch from the White Cliffs of Dover all the way to the Surrey borders. Another essential highlight of the county is Leeds Castle. Confusingly named Leeds Castle, despite the fact it is located in Kent and not in Yorkshire, this 900 year old structure oozes history and culture.
