Glen Innes was gazetted in 1852 and has an array of historic buildings such as the Couthouse which was constructed in 1873. Step back in time whilst enjoying the Heritage town walk which is rich in history. Glen Innes is situated in the most prolific sapphire region in NSW and is internationally famous for the deep rich royal blue sapphires. Fossicking is an enjoyable & easy activity and is available in many locations. Glen Innes is the gateway to the World Heritage national parks of Washpool and the Gibraltar range, where the visitor can experience waterfalls, spectacular scenery, walking tracks & the largest remaining wilderness rainforest in NSW. There is also year round festivals/events such as Minerama, Land of the Beardies Festival and the Australian Celtic Festival. The Australian Standing Stones are the official monument to Australia's Celtic pioneers and are the venue for the highly successful Australian Celtic Festival which is held in May and draws both international & Australian spectators to experience the colour and spectacle of non stop entertainment.
Land of the Beardies History House Museum offers visitors remarkable exhibits of so many facets of history from pioneering times through to the wars. Other activities include Wineries, murray cod fishing, Emmerville Mining Museum, or just relax at one of our local coffee shops
