Nai Yang Beach is a unique and fantastic place you don’t often read about in magazines or brochures, but one that shouldn’t be missed in your Phuket itinerary. Many tourists pass by the beach as they leave Phuket’s International Airport for the more popular southern beaches, not knowing they’ve just left behind one of the most quiet and serene seafronts on the island, especially given its proximity to the airport. Why not check out our Nai Yang Beach hotels that will have you slipping sand between your toes in no time!
With a curved stretch of golden sand that is always peaceful, even when the wonderful beachside restaurants are full or locals picnic under the big trees. That is why everyone from travellers, to Phuket residents fall in love with this hidden gem, because it somehow provides the perfect blend of calm serenity with excellent facilities.
Nai Yang seems to be split into many different parts. One side has a few hotels and resorts and the other, closer to the airport is a protected national park, filled with green tall trees and long boats lapping the water.
There is one main road that runs the length of Nai Yang Beach, winding its way around the national park and with different properties ranging from simple hotels to cafes. Beach chairs sit under umbrellas in the sand, but they don’t overrun the waterfront like many other beaches on Phuket’s west coast, here they form a tidy line or two and there parts of the beach that are empty. You’ll be able to find a perfect spot whether you prefer a bit of shade and easy access to ice-cold drinks, or a beach towel stretched out in the sun away from everyone.
The water may not be the crystal blue you had in your dreams, but it is clean and soothing. You’ll find it the clearest at the quieter north end, the perfect excuse to take lovely walks back and forth from the built-up areas!
The fact that locals love to come here for picnics and weekend breaks really works in the favour of travellers. Thai’s love their food and won’t settle for anything other than authentic meals which offer good value, so you’ll find a variety of mobile food stalls in Nai Yang, selling mind-blowing papaya salad, grilled chicken, sticky rice, sweet desserts, and much more. Even the simple beachfront restaurants tend to keep their prices reasonable for anyone to enjoy fresh seafood and flavoursome Thai cuisine.
Nai Yang is also taking some cool steps towards being a trendy but laid-back nightlife spot. Bars/restaurants with elevated seating on cushions and mattresses let you enjoy the sea breeze in style with a dish or cocktail (or both!) of your choice.
