If it's sunbathing and swimming you're after, Koh Lanta has a host of beaches to enjoy all along the west coast but probably the most popular is Klong Dao beach. Klong Dao stretches three kilometres in total and its proximity to the nearby port makes it a popular destination but if it's true isolation you want, heading further south is recommended. The beaches of Klong Hin and Klong Nin are both located in more rustic territory but are still reachable from the main road. Meanwhile, Klong Tiang beach is the definition of remote and you will be rewarded for making the effort to get down there because the nature is largely unspoilt and the tourists are largely absent. Wherever you stay along the coast, the beach will never be too far from your Koh Lanta hotel.

Although lazing around in the sun is a great way to spend a holiday, there are also plenty of activities to take advantage of during a stay on the island. Diving and snorkelling are both well worth doing as the Andaman Sea is home to some spectacular sites, including the occasionally seen whale shark which is the biggest fish in the world. There is also the Koh Lanta Marine National Park which consists of a collection of small islands off the southern tip of Koh Lanta and is well worth a day trip. With permission, the island of Koh Rok can even be camped on which makes for an unforgettable experience. Tents can be rented for a small cost.

After a re-energising stay in a Koh Lanta resort, heading to another of Thailand's famous islands is simple enough and if you have the time, travelling further south to the Trang Province is recommended.
