In Khaosan and the Old City you can enjoy the true spirit of Bangkok in its most characterful district. Sacred temples, fantastic street food, backpacker bars and many other highlights exist in this part of the city to cater for everyone's needs.

For the culture hungry among you, a visit to the Grand Palace is essential. This is the traditional residence of the Thai royal family and serves as a fantastic introduction to the history of Thailand as well as providing welcome relief from the chaos outside. Our Khao San hotels also provide a great platform to visit one of the best known temples in the Kingdom, Wat Pho. Wat Pho houses the remarkable reclining Buddha which stretches to almost 46 metres in length and inspires awe in everyone who sees it.

No stay in this part of Bangkok would be complete without a visit to the infamous Khao San Road. This vibrant backpacker mecca has earned a reputation for many things and in most of these instances it's probably fully deserved. The street is home to an almost endless array of bars and Khao San Road hotels as well as a market which sells everything from croaking wooden frogs to fake identification.

Thailand is synonymous with delicious food and in the Old City you can find some of the tastiest and strangest meals around. Chinatown is a great place to start and can be easily accessed from any Khaosan hotels we offer. Yaowarat is the main road running through Chinatown and here you can gorge on street food snacks such as hot chestnuts and Chinese noodles, or you could treat yourself to some shark's fin soup served in many of the restaurants.

Finally, for the most adventurous travellers a trip to the Siriraj Medical Museum, located across the Chao Phraya river inside Siriraj Hospital, is worth considering. The museum displays a staggering collection of body parts in jars, forensic evidence and the mummified body of the notorious Thai serial killer, Si Ouey.
