It’s not very often you can claim to have skied on an active volcano, but with our wide range of ski accommodation Ruapehu, you can say just that! Mt Ruapehu is home to two of the largest ski areas in New Zealand; Whakapapa on the northern side, and Turoa on the southern, and can also lay claim to the fact that it is home to New Zealand’s longest vertical drop – 722m, at the Turoa field. Snow season generally runs from late June until early November. At the summit is a steaming crater lake, which always keeps you aware of the volcanoes “active status”. Use our ski accommodation Ruapehu to carve down natural half pipes created by lava – not something you can experience every day! Of course, there are plenty of other activities to keep you occupied when you’re not hitting the slopes. There are fantastic walks available, or perhaps explore the Taupo region – one of the geothermal hot pools might be just what’s needed to soothe those muscles after a hard day at the slopes. All of these options are within easy reach of our ski accommodation in Mount Ruapehu, and make it the perfect choice for an amazing snow holiday this season!
