Sentosa Island dazzles its visitors, gets their hearts pounding and adrenaline pumping, but it can also be relaxing and luxurious, all within the same day. Sentosa is a resort destination that has everything from palm tree-lined beaches with small offshore islands, to a Resorts World with a state-of-the-art casino and Universal Studios theme park. However old you are, it’s fun for the whole family! Pick the right Sentosa Island accommodation for you and let the nonstop fun begin.
The island is located just off the south coast of Singapore and can be reached by cable car (most expensive), ferry, express monorail, or bus (cheapest). The big question is where to begin. You can head south to one of the three beaches – Siloso, Palawan or Tanjong – and ease into the day lazing about on the sand, or you can kick start your heart at Universal Studios Singapore. If you choose the action option, you’ll love the seven different zones. In the relaxed Hollywood and New York zones, you can pretend you’re a movie star in replicas of Hollywood Boulevard, a soundstage, shops and restaurants. The other zones though will get your blood pumping with dual criss-crossing rollercoasters in Sci-Fi City, a high-speed ride through the dark in Ancient Egypt, white water river rides through dangerous dinosaur territory in The Lost World and heaps more. Kids will love the Far Far Away zone, where they are transported to a land with a giant fantasy castle and Shrek-themed amusement rides.
It’s not all fun and games on Sentosa Island though. If you’re looking for a more adult way to let your hair down, try your swing at one of the two golf courses in Sentosa Golf Club – beautiful and challenging enough to host the Singapore Open each year. Otherwise put on your poker face and visit the tables at the casino in Crockfords Tower, or lay back for that well-deserved spa treatment.
Between the beaches and Resorts World, Sentosa is a peaceful place covered with thick, cool forest. Different attractions dot the area, letting you step into history, the depths of the ocean and Singapore’s culture. The walk-through aquarium at Underwater World puts just a thin plane of glass between you and the graceful sharks, while over near Siloso Beach pink dolphins show off their twirling skills at Dolphin Lagoon. Over near Sentosa’s western tip is Fort Siloso, which has defended Singapore through many conflicts – just don’t try to fire the inactive cannons now, as you’ll look silly!
As if Sentosa Island isn’t cool enough, it has its very own yearly festival that has become world famous. If you like beach parties, you’ll love ZoukOut – a dance music festival that takes over Siloso Beach in mid-December, bringing in some real world-class DJs including David Guetta and Armin van Buuren in past years.
There is no better way to let Sentosa show you its colours than by booking from the Sentosa Island hotels that put you just steps from whatever activity your heart desires. Add a flight to Singapore into the mix and you’re there!
