Saltings Estate Matakana

Unpack your suitcases and stay for a week or more and use this lovely property as your base to explore the many wonderful places within driving distance from here. The Bay of Islands, Kawau Island and Auckland City are all within easy reach yet when you come back after a lovely day you can totally relax knowing that there is no need to pack your bags again! Bliss! Now as you gaze over the vineyard in utter contentment you can enjoy the gorgeous view with a glass of wine made from the vines stretched out before you. In fine weather all your meals can be enjoyed on the deck - some people just never want to move from here.

For lovers of walking, there is a beautiful coastal bush walk right on your doorstep. We offer wine tasting on site for our in house guests and if practical, we also offer a tour of our biodynamic vineyard @ $30 pp. Advance bookings are essential for this. The Vintry at Matakana also offers tastings of all the locally grown wines and is a really fun place to visit. Kayaking and day sailing can all be arranged nearby and snorkling is absolutely wonderful at the Marine Reserve at Leigh. The ferry to Kawau Island departs just a few minutes from here at the Sandspit jetty. We have three good golf courses within easy reach in Warkworth, Omaha and Gulf Harbour. There are many hiking and walking trails around, especially in our beautiful Tawharanui National Park and of course right here here in Sandspit and the beaches free of huge crowds and are perfectly safe for swimming. Fantastic restaurants, cafes and art galleries abound in this area and some are only minutes away by car. Matakana which is only ten minutes away has three superb, state of the art movie theatres where you can take your glass of wine or cup of coffee as you enjoy a movie. The Saturday morning market in Matakana (and Wednesday afternoons in the Summer months) is hugely popular with live music, fresh local organic produce, bagels and coffee. The Sculpture Trail at Brick Bay Vineyard is truly stunning and only a few minutes drive from here.
