Rough and Tumble Bush Lodge

Enjoy the tranquil bushwalks on our private hundred acres;

Cast for trout in the river right outside the lodge;

Take a spin in a sit on top kayak (provided for hosted guests, sorry not available for self-catering guests) in 'The Pool,' the flatwater area right outside the lodge;

Lie back in bliss in our fabulous two person bush bath, absolutely private and perched right over the river!

Count the many bird species seen from the lodge, and visit with our cheeky wekas;

Grab a cuppa and a book or magazine, and relax in front of the open fire;

Hike, run or bike the nearby Charming Creek Walkway from either end;

Take a day trip to Karamea. Visit the Oparara Arches and walk an hour into the Heaphy Track for a picnic on Scotts Beach;

Explore the historic Denniston plateau, rich in relics, burning mines and mountain biking & four wheel driving opportunities;

Four wheel drive the old forestry roads in the Charming Creek area for hours. If you love mud, they're heaven!

Visit our friendly local pubs and cafés, in Seddonville and Granity;

Poke around Westport, New Zealand as it used to be;

Visit the famous Tauranga Bay Seal Colony and Cape Foulwind Walkway;

Drive or bike to the the Mokihinui rivermouth, visit the shipwreck, fossick for driftwood and walk the beach - usually empty for miles on end.

Hike up the Mokihinui River Track and have a picnic lunch at Rough and Tumble Creek.

Take an after dinner walk to our own little glowworm grotto ... they're right at your fingertips.

Soak in the night's sky: There's no light pollution here and the Milky Way before the moon has risen is astounding.

Wake up to the morning chorus and the private views of birds, bush and mountains from your room.
