Starting late July and through to early November is whale watching season in Hervey Bay. The Urangan Boat Harbour is the local meeting point for many different aquatic activities including Hervey Bay fishing while The Esplanade and the city centre offers a plethora of land attractions and activities such as Hervey Bay 4WD adventures.

The World Heritage listed Fraser Island is just across the water and it's just a thirty-five minute flight by seaplane to the southern reaches of the Great Barrier Reef.
