New Zealand has long been renowned for its pure, unsullied landscape… and it is equally renowned for the quality of the wine that is produced from this natural paradise. If you’re a wine connoisseur, or just a fan of the odd “vine tipple”, use our New Zealand wine regions accommodation pages below to explore these regions, and find likely accommodation spots for your vineyard trip. For any wine-lover, New Zealand's wine regions simply cannot be missed. And while of course wine tasting is the goal, the sheer beauty of travelling the wine regions that New Zealand has to offer is undeniable. With the New Zealand landscape being one of contrast, the wine the country produces reflects this diversity. From the dense forest and snow capped mountains to the spectacular coastline, wine in the country is grown in a wide array of climates and landscapes. The differences that this affects in the wine itself are demonstrable by the harvesting date of Chardonnay; in the warmer Northern regions, Chardonnay might be harvested in late February or early March. However, in the more southerly regions of Central Otago – where in fact the world’s most southerly chardonnay grapes are produced – the harvesting might only take place in mid to late April… a difference of 6-8 weeks. With such a varying climate, New Zealand's wine regions produce a class of wine for every wine lover. Whether it's a Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon,Cabernet Franc, Syrah or Pinot Noir; all are found within New Zealand. There are 10 major wine producing regions in New Zealand. In the North Island, there are the regions of Northland, Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Gisborne and Wellington. The South Island wine regions include Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, and Otago… all of which are within easy reach of our New Zealand wine region accommodation.
