Whether you are looking for the adrenaline rush of adventure sports or just want to relax and soak in the amazing scenery, we have great rates on Queenstown accommodation. Queenstown is set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and overlooked by the magnificent mountain ranges of the Southern Alps of New Zealand. Queenstown began life as a gold mining town in the 1860's and was named for its stunning natural beauty as it was ‘fit for Queen Victoria’. Today, the city is known as the ‘adventure capital of the world’, as the jetboat was invented in Queenstown in 1970 and the world’s first commercial bungy jump was established in 1988... it is estimated that 350,000 people have bungy jumped in Queenstown since then. Another activity to be pioneered in Queenstown was tandem parapenting, which involves attaching the passenger to the 'pilot' with them running off the edge of a mountain side with the wing (canopy) of the parapente rising above to create a sensation almost like a bird gliding to earth. Other adventure activities available in Queenstown include tandem skydiving, tandem hang gliding, river surfing, parasailing, canyoning, abseiling, white water rafting and kayaking. After all that activity, you'll be thankful to return and relax in your Queenstown accommodation. If adventure sports are not your thing, there are a number of relaxing pursuits easily accessible from our Queenstown hotels. Golfers will love the area’s scenic courses, the award-winning Millbrook Resort, Kelvin Heights, Arrowtown and Frankton courses. While fishing enthusiasts will enjoy the picturesque lakes where great rainbow trout, brown trout and quinnat salmon are common. Or join a wine tasting tour and enjoy the scenic drive to discover the area’s numerous boutique wineries. While staying in one of our Queenstown hotels, take a scenic drive out of the city and discover the surrounding area where much of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy was filmed. For a fascinating step back in time, visit the 19th century gold rush town of Arrowtown, just a 20 minute drive from our Queenstown accommodation. Or to marvel at absolutely stunning scenery visit Fiordland National Park, which is home to natural wonders such as Milford Sound and Mitre Peak. Or just 50 minute’s drive from Queenstown is Lake Wanaka, which translates from Maori as “renewal of the soul”. The town attracts skiers and snow boarders during winter for the Treble Cone Ski Area, Cardrona Alpine Resort and the Nordic ski area of Waiorau Snow Farm, (if you're one of those ski bunnies, check out our Queenstown ski accommodation), while during summer holiday makers flock to the lake’s beaches. |
