Soak up the local history of the city by visiting the Colonial Cottage Museum, built in 1858, which gives a taste of the life of a New Zealand colonial family. Or check out the historic Parliament Buildings, which are some of the world’s largest all-wood structures, or the Birthplace of Katherine Mansfield, one of New Zealand's most famous authors.
