The picturesque seaside town of Picton is situated in the heart of the beautiful Marlborough Sounds.
Easily accessed by 'interisland ferry' or 'plane' 25km from Wellington (New Zealand's capital), or a four hour drive from Christchurch via the magnificent mountain scenery of the Kaikoura coastal highway.

'Picton' offers many excellent restaurants, cafes and bars.
Stroll among specialist gift and craft shops and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Picton's foreshore featuring many attractions, including visiting one of the oldest wooden sailing ships in the world. The Edwin Fox was built in India in 1853 of Burmese teak. It was once used to transport convicts from England to Australia. She is now preserved in a purpose built dry-dock which is open to the Public.

Nearby is 'Seahorse World' showing displays of many different types of fish and seahorses.

The Picton Museum is well worth a visit with displays and artifacts of the local whaling industry, also many interesting displays of local Maori and early settlers.

From the Picton waterfront cruise 'boat' trips are a great way to experience the beauty of Queen Charlotte Sound.
For the more adventurous try your hand at 'sailing' or 'sea kayaking'.

Visits to forgotten sunken shipwrecks can be arranged by an underwater guided 'diving' tour. Picton's boat harbour and Waikawa marina ( the largest in the south Island) are both within a couple of minutes drive of McCormick House.

Enjoy the secluded bays, coves and sheltered waterways of the Marlborough Sounds. Spend a delightful day on the water and take in a personalised and leisurely 'ecotour', learn Maori and European history while encountering wildlife as you cruise on the 74 year old launch Tukanekai. This 42 foot doublemasted classic launch is cosy, quiet and dignified. Each cruise highlights different aspects of New Zealand's land heritage and seascape.

If you'd like to stretch your legs, our world renowned 'Queen Charlotte Track' is just a step away. The four day 71km track passes through historic sites, beautiful secluded bays and lush coastal bush. Walkers can be dropped off and picked up by 'boat' at key areas of the track, for shorter walking options.

If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground there are a wide range of activities including an excellent local 'golf' course.
Many short bush walks from McCormick House provide stunning panoramic views of Queen Charlotte Sound.

A must for wine lovers is a visit to one of the world's finest wine producing regions, showcasing Marlborough's award winning Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Methode Traditionelle wines.
'Sounds Connection' run full or half day wine tours specialising in smaller relaxed groups.

Picton's closest award winning winery, Johanneshof Cellars featuring New Zealand's first underground rock cellar is well worth a visit.

Let Picton be your base for 'driving' to Havelock via Queen Charlotte drive( gateway to the picturesque Keneperu Sound) or historic Port Underwood.

At the end of your busy day relax back in the tranquil surroundings of McCormick House.
