Alcamo
Founded in 828 by the Arab commander al-Kamuk it later became a Norman city during the middle age. This is a very pretty town located only a few minutes from Hotel La Battigia, amid hills and filled with monuments and works of art. Not to be missed: the Basilica di Maria Santissima Assunta from the 18th century, the Castello dei Conti di Modica dating back to the 14th century, the Torre De Balis from the 15th century, the Chiesa Madre and Chiesa dei SS. Paolo e Bartolomeo.

Scopello
A 10-minute car ride from Hotel La Battigia will get you to Scopello. A very small town around the court of an ancient feudal hold and sloping down to the sea where you will find a historical tonnara (tuna fish factory) and where you can admire the famous Faraglioni (rock formations). This coast which is made up of small bays and coves nestled between the turquoise sea and the very white sandy beaches is truly stunning!

"Lo Zingaro" Natural Reserve
Between Scopello and San Vito Lo capo, at 10 minutes from Hotel La Battigia, 1650 hectares and 7 km of coast of pristine nature and breathtaking landscapes. This is the nesting ground of some rare species that unfortunately are in danger of extinction such as the peregrine falcon, the Bonelli eagle and the red kite (milvus milvus). The prehistoric Grotta dell'Uzzo is proof of man's presence here since times immemorial.

Archaeological Park of Segesta
The Doric temple dating from the 5th century B.C. has come down to us incredibly intact and dominates the hills of Segesta. It was founded by the Elymians and later on became one of the main cities of Magna Graecia. The other great attractions of the archaeological park are the Greek Theatre carved from the rock which is from the 3rd century B.C., while the great Sanctuary dates back to the 4th-5th century B.C.
