The village, with walls built of blue bricks, is still inhabited by descendants of the Tang clan, one of the five main clans to settle in the New Territories. Visit the Hong Kong Heritage Museum in Sha Tin New Town and discover the rich cultural history of the area. The museum features relics of early Hong Kong and the nearby South China region, an exhibition on the history of the Cantonese Opera, as well as paintings by the acclaimed artist Zhao Shao'ang. While in Sha Tin, board the ferry near Ma Liu Shui for the three and a half hour roundtrip on Tolo Harbour past picturesque rural villages and islands. While staying in out hotels in the New Territories, take a trip to the charming village of Sai Kung, where you can enjoy delicious seafood and explore the remote island of Kau Sai Chau, which lies just off the coast. The island's main draw card is the Hung Shing Temple, which won an UNESCO award as an outstanding culture and heritage restoration project. Also in Sai Kung, at Ho Chung, is the 400 year old temple of Che Kung, which is definitely worth a visit. Take a fascinating step back in time and see how the villagers of the New Territories lived over 200 years ago, by visiting the Sam Tung Uk Museum. Sam Tung Uk means "three rows of dwelling" and the museum is a restored rural walled village that features an ancestral hall, an exhibition hall, a lecture hall, two rows of houses and displays of agricultural equipment, furniture and handicrafts of the period.
