Innsbruck is located in the south east corner of Austria, and is a key access point to the Brenner Pass, which can be found just 30 kilometres away. The Brenner is one of the principal passes through the Alps and link Austria to neighbouring Italy. The Alps dominate the Innsbruck landscape and provide a breathtaking backdrop for your stay in an Innsbruck hotel. The city became a centre for European politics and culture when Maximilian I came to reside there in 1429, the remnants of his time in Innsbruck are still very apparent with buildings including the Kaiserliche Hofburg (Imperial Court) and Hofkirchen (Imperial Church). The Hofkirchen contains Maximilian I’s cenotaph, built as a memorial by his grandson Ferdinand I. |
