Margaret River is one of Australia’s largest wine growing regions and although it only produces three percent of the nation’s grapes, the region is responsible for more than 20 per cent of the nation’s premium wines. The first vines were planted in 1967 and since then the region has taken off and boasts 110 grape producers and around 90 vineyards open to the public for tastings and cellardoor sales.

Although the district is renowned for its chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon wines, the region is also gaining acclaim for its shiraz and merlot, semillon, sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc and verdelho varieties and there are plantings of exciting experimental varieties such as viognier and sangiovese, If you’ve got a sweet tooth that a dessert wine just isn’t going to satisfy, our Margaret River accommodation is a great base for visiting the Margaret River Chocolate Company factory or The Margaret River Fudge Factory, where you are able to watch confectionery being made by hand.

The region boasts breath taking natural beauty: From the small creeks and sweeping valleys, to the thick native forests; from the rugged coastline, to the fascinating caves. Beach fishing is especially popular during May and June when huge schools of Australian salmon, on their annual spawning run, make their way up the coast north to Perth.
