Just three hours' drive south of Perth, Busselton is renowned for its beautiful beaches, calm bays and iconic jetty. Built in 1865, the historic jetty is the southern hemisphere's longest wooden pier and has been described as Australia's greatest artificial reef. Visit the Underwater Observatory at the end of the jetty and descend 8m below see level to see around 300 species of amazingly colourful marine life. To learn of the jetty's history and the marine environment, visit the Interpretative Centre, built 50m offshore. For another glimpse into the town's history visit the Old Court House Complex. Built between 1854 and 1854 the building was used as a courtroom, gaol, post office, stables and bond store and today is a community arts centre with a gallery and café. Get close to nature, while staying in our Busselton accommodation, by visiting Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park. The park is located on the south west coast of WA, 40km from Busselton and covers an area of 9,800 hectare. The park is famous for its breathtaking coastal scenery and offers great bushwalking, fascinating caves, and beautiful beaches perfect for swimming, surfing and diving. Or visit the Ludlow Tuart Forest, 7km east of Busselton and see the world's last natural tuart forest with trees estimated to be 300 to 400 years old. There is a sheltered lagoon, perfect for children, and surf classes are run on the beach. Just a thirty minute drive from Busselton, The Centre was developed by the Wardandi people as a place to share their culture with visitors to promote understanding and reconciliation. Learn of the Wardandi people's connection with the land, learn of medicine plants and bush tucker, learn how to make tools and how to throw spears and boomerangs, and participate in traditional music and dance. Humpback, Southern Right, and Pygmy Blue whales can be viewed from a number of spots along the coast or from tour boats, as they move along the south west coast of WA and bask and play in the protected bays.
