Melbourne Airport Accommodation
Also known as Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne Airport is the main airport for this laidback and cultural city. It’s also the second busiest airport in the whole of the country and sees thousands of passengers flying in and out and to and from a variety of international and domestic destinations every day. Whether you have a late arriving flight, an early departure, or just fancy being close to the airport, check out our range of Melbourne Airport accommodation to help you get the most out of your stay.
Opened in July 1970, Melbourne Airport was built to replace Essendon Airport, which was not suitable for the growing number of visitors flying in and out of the city. Since then it has gone through several expansions and developments, growing into one of Australia’s major airports.
Things to do
There are currently four terminals in the airport: one for international flights, two for domestic destinations, and one budget domestic terminal. In the international terminal you can see some great pieces of Aboriginal art work. The airport is less than 25 kilometres from the heart of the Melbourne CBD. In the CBD you can head down to Southgate or the inner-city laneways and head to wine bar or discover some boutique bargains. There is so much to do in this culturally dynamic city, so there’s no need to be bored, even if you are staying at the airport.
Shopping and dining
Each terminal has good facilities and services for passengers, including cafes to eat and drink and a selection of shops. Don’t worry if you have forgotten to pack something that you want for your trip – you are sure to be able to find it in one of the airport shops. However, like most airports, there is a mark-up on the price, so if you have time to head out of the airport and into town, whatever you need will be much cheaper, so you’ll have more dosh to do what you really want.
Getting here and around
Melbourne Airport is well connected to the city centre by road. Many people use the fast and efficient Skybus Super Shuttle, which connects with nearby train stations as well as the Central Business District.
