Rotorua provides the visitor with a wealth of cultural and historical activities and attractions. The ‘geothermal wonderland’ environment of Rotorua’s landscape allows you to feel the spirit of both historical and modern times.

Lakes: Sixteen lakes can be found in Rotorua’s landscape. Formed by ancient volcanic activity, the lakes now provide excellent natural environments for extensive walking tracks, fishing trips for trout, swimming, water skiing and many other water based activities.

Trout fishing is particularly popular, with the region’s world-renowned catches making it a sought after area for beginner and experienced anglers. Most of the lakes are easily accessible, with clear signs and directions on local maps and some have their own fishing seasons.

The Buried Village: Nobody would have believed in June 10 1886, that the serenity enjoyed by the inhabitants of Te Wairoa would be shattered by an outpouring of the Earth’s fury. Few would have dreamed as the eighth wonder of the world - the fantastic Pink and White Terraces - sparkled in the moonlight, events deep in the ground were menacingly unfolding.

For the more adventurous types take a visit to the Agrodome where you can engage in sheep shows and farm tours, experience NZ's fastest jet sprint boat, swing on the Rotorua Swoop, body fly with the free fall extreme, do an adrenaline pumping 43 metre bungy jump, race through speed on the Shweeb, roll down a hill in a unique Zorb!

Also visit Rotorua's unique geo thermal springs at the Polynesian Spa, feast on a hangi at one of the many local sites, take a gondola ride and luge, visit the Rainbow Springs Nature Park for your very own special kiwi encounter....the options are endless!
