Cockermouth is situated in the most beautiful corner of England - the Lake District in Cumbria. It's unique position also makes it within reach of the Solway coast (7 miles) and Scotland (30 miles). The M6 motorway, together with the A66 trunk road from the motorway to the west coast makes road communication very easy. An excellent main line service is available from nearby Workington, to Carlisle, the cathedral city, 25 miles away and there are regular connecting bus services to most parts of Cumbria and the Lake District. The town boasts a castle and two rivers - the Cocker (from which the town derives its name) and the Derwent, both ideal for salmon and trout fishing. Cockermouth’s most famous son is the great William Wordsworth, and his former residence is a fine local attraction. If you’re looking for an active holiday, you really will be spoilt for choice. With the Lake District fells, the lakes themselves, five good golf courses and an excellent salmon river nearby, Allerdale Court is an ideal base for all sorts of activities, whether it’s for a weekend or a longer break.
