While Matildas has received the usual tourism awards (including American travel magazine Fodors 2009), we hold the opinions of our guests in far higher regard and it is from them that we receive the most constant and positive feedback. The vast majority of our bookings originate from word of mouth referrals, and we thank our guests (both here and abroad) for their constant support and generosity. Matildas is a Heritage property situated among gardens and parkland. The main house, gardens and adjoining Oast House are listed with the National Trust. A family property as well as wonderful accommodation, Matildas has gained a reputation for being one of the friendliest places to stay in Tasmania. Our garden rooms are furnished with genuine antiques, collectables and artwork. They are heated and have underfloor heating in the bathrooms. Our beds are Queen sized, our rooms have comfortable seating, and everything we provide has an emphasis on quality. We value highly our guests comfort and privacy (and we won't publish your guest book comments for promotional purposes!). The Potting Shed has a spa ensuite and is located in the flower gardens, and this popular room is charming and quaint. The Butt'ry is to be found at the end of a winding convict brick path among the trees and gardens. It looks to have grown where it stands but was in fact built in early 2009. Each room presents you with furniture and fixtures that won't be found just anywhere. Our other three rooms are currently under renovation and will be available in early 2010. Matildas offers you all the charm and Heritage atmosphere of a traditional bed and breakfast, combined with the privacy of your own garden room in a wonderland setting. Breakfast is delivered to your room in the morning at a time that suits you, so that everything is freshly prepared. There is so much to see and do in The Huon D'Entrecasteaux Channel Region - visit the famous Tahune Airwalk, enjoy the fabulous waterways which form part of this beautiful part of Tasmania or day trip to Bruny Island. There are several excellent a la carte restaurents 5-10 minutes from Matilda's. As this is the part of Tasmania which gave Tasmania it's name "The Apple Isle", Apple & cherry Orchards with old trees abound and there is wonderful variety of fresh local produce, with fresh apples and cherries being packed right next door. There are 8 acres of parkland, gardens and paddocks to wander around here. There is something to see in the garden at all times of the year and Mountain River flows on our lower boundary. We are located within a short stroll of two lovely old churches and a village green and we are surrounded by orchards of apples, cherries and newly planted hops. Although barely 2kms from Huonville, the world is certainly left behind by at least 100 years. We look forward to welcoming you to this lovely old country property, so come and escape the real world for a while - you may well never want to leave. |

| Getting There |
Matilda's is 30 minutes south of Hobart, and we are open for check-in from 2pm. Take the A-6 highway out of Hobart and follow the signs to Huonville. Before you arrive in the town you will see our sign on the highway directing you on the scenic route to Matildas. If you miss this though, just drive through to Huonville - there is 1 roundabout in Huonville - turn right at the roundabout and travel approx 2 kms, until you come to a very sharp corner (you have to slow down). On your left there is a lovely old Heritage Listed church called St James and directly opposite the church is the entrance to Matilda's |

Matilda's of Ranelagh is set on 8 acres of gardens and parkland. All parking is off street |
| Things To Do |
Matilda's is ideally suited for vistors wishing to journey along The Huon Trail. This is full of things to see and do - visit local wineries - Home Hill Winery & Restaurant is 1.5 kms from Matilda's and Panorama Wines - famous for their award winning Pinot Noir - is 17 kms away. The world class attraction, The Tahune Airwalk is a pleasant 50 minute drive and a little further south are the fascinating Hastings Caves and springs. A day trip to Bruny Island is a must. We recommend visitors allow themselves a minimun of 2-3 nights in order to take in all the sights and taste some of the wonderful produce available in this region of Tasmania. We are fortunate in having several excellent a-la carte restaurants, hotels and cafes, 5-10 minues from the property. The Apples are harvested in March and April and it is a wonderful time to be in The Huon Valley. Matilda's is next door to a huge apple packing shed where visitors are welcome to pop in, watch the packing process and nibble on a freshly picked apple or two. |
