A stunning sandstone building, MacArthur Chambers was constructed between 1931 and 1934, and was originally headquarters for the Australian Mutual Provident Society. However, the building became an important part of Australian history when in July 1942 American General Douglas MacArthur - Commander-In-Chief of the Allied Forces for the Pacific Region - moved to Brisbane and commandeered the premises as a base to conduct the crucial Pacific Campaign of World War II. And so the building came to be known as MacArthur Chambers. In keeping with this remarkable history, a permanent memorial featuring General MacArthur's original office is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 10am-3pm. **IMPORTANT CHECK IN INSTRUCTIONS - Please note that if you are arriving outside business hours you must contact the property prior to arrival to obtain the after hours access instructions. The hotel contact number is provided on your booking confirmation. Macarthur Chambers reception hours are Monday to Sunday 7am - 10pm. Photo ID and Credit Card authorisation will be required upon check in. Upon arrival at Macarthur Chambers a Credit Card pre-authorisation will be required and will be used to cover incidental items including (but not limited to): telephone calls, breakages/damages, excessive cleaning charges above the normal level of cleaning due to the apartment being left in an unacceptable state, etc. Cash is not an acceptable form of bond when staying with Macarthur Chambers and a valid credit card must be presented upon arrival.
