In Mira, not far from Venice, is Villa Margherita, located on perhaps the most scenic bend of the River Brenta, which mirrors the most beautiful Villas that Palladio created for the nobles families of the Serenissima Republic. The approach to Villa Margherita is along a romantic lime avenue with several antique statues. During the 17th century the Villa housed the guest rooms of the noble Venetian Contarini family and is today considered an example of a Veneto “house”, in which simplicity and elegance are at the service of its patrons. The original 16th century building is flanked by a long 19th century addition, enhanced by a five-arch portico. Like the discrete conversation niches indoors, the shady veranda provides an excellent setting for moments of relaxation. In the parlours and drawing room - with their mirrors, frescoes, stuccos and glowing open hearths - one can savour precious silence and a delightfully peaceful atmosphere. Tranquillity and harmony fill the communal areas, as much as the dining hall in the Venetian “campiello”, which opens onto the immense green of the park behind the Villa. As well as offering the Hotel guests menus of fresh fish cooked according to the best Venetian traditions, Ristorante Margherita carefully prepares menus for special occasions such as receptions and stylish business lunches. |
