| Getting There |
Flying QantasLink offers flights from Darwin, Perth & Broome. Airnorth flys from Darwin or Broome to Kununurra at least once a day, more often during the tourist season. Also has direct flights from Perth at least twice a week. Skywest flys direct from Darwin, Perth & Broome. Complimentary transfers to and from Kununurra Airport are available on request. Please provide flight details on booking. Driving. Kununurra is located 1040 kms north east of Broome, or 825 kms southwest from Darwin and 3250 kms from Perth. Either way it's a long drive, but definitely worth it. For those taking the drive north from Perth, the coastal route passes through some of Western Australia best attractions including Monkey Mia, Shark Bay, Broome and Cable Beach, before heading into the Kimberley’s. If you have time, the drive to the Kimberley is amazing from any direction. Especially the stretch of road between Katherine and Kununurra is simply spectacular. So is the road from Kununurra to Halls Creek. And of course, for the really adventurous and the four wheel driving enthusiasts, there is the Gibb River Road from Broome to Kununurra. A 660km stretch of unsealed road through the heart of the Kimberley and to some of the most remote and beautiful places on this planet. Greyhound also has services to Kununurra from Broome & Darwin. |

There are many reasons to visit Kununurra. We have listed some of them below: -Australia's most picturesque landscape -Australia's most isolated waterfalls -World Biggest diamond producers, Argyle Diamond Mines -Australia's longest and best river cruise 110klm on the Ord -World's most unique holiday destination El Questro -Australia's largest fresh water lake Lake Argyle -Australia's most exhilarating helicopter flights -Gateway to the 350 million year old Bungle Bungle ranges -Australia's greatest irrigation scheme -Australia's largest melon farms -The world's most majestic Boab Trees -Western Australia's only rum distillery -Australia's unsurpassed burrumundi fishing -Australia's unique bird life -Australia's oldest art galleries -Visit Mirima (Hidden Valley) National Park, just 3 kilometers from Kununurra and stroll through 350 million year old rock formations. -Drive up to Kelly’s Knob in the afternoon and take in the excellent views of the Ord Valley and Lake Kununurra, and then experience the spectacular sunsets. -Wander through the City of Ruins, a natural sandstone formation to the right off Weaber Plains Road. -Have a picnic lunch and maybe launch your boat behind the Diversion Dam. Great photo spot, be crocodile aware. -Hire a boat on Lake Kununurra, or check out the vast array of flora and fauna that lives there. -Take in a movie at The Picture Gardens in Coolibah Drive, open during the dry season. You can drive in or you can walk in – it’s up to you. -Go for a stroll along the Historical Society Walk Trail. You can purchase a guide booklet from the Visitor Centre. -Relax in the shade at Celebrity Tree Park, and have a look for the names of celebrities who have planted trees there. -Drive out to historic Ivanhoe Crossing, the old concrete causeway over the Ord River. Great picnic spot or try your luck fishing for a Barramundi. Be crocodile aware. |
