Okoroire Hotel is a beautiful, famous 'Olde World' country pub built in the 1880's and nestled in eighty acres of park surroundings on the banks of the Waihou River. Our family has owned and operated this business for three generations. The hotel is constructed from native timbers and is a veritable example of a true Kiwi hotel. With our own 9 hole golf course, Okororie is an ideal center for a golfing break, additionally there are a further 27 golf courses with 40 minutes of the hotel. The hotel is in the heart of the Waikato, no more than 40 minutes to Tauranga, Hamilton and Rotorua. Auckland airport is 90 minutes drive time and Taupo is 70 minutes to the south. The hotel has 14 House wing rooms fully refurbished in the Edwardian style, there are 7 Chalets plus budget accommodation. | Getting There |
If you are driving from Auckland the most scenic route is to follow State Highway 1 towards Hamilton. At the bottom of the Bombay Hills, turn left onto State Highway 2, then onto State Highway 27. Follow the signs to Matamata. Continue through Matamata to Tirau where State Highway 27 ends at the intersection with State Highway 1. Take a left into Tirau township and travel 200 metres. On your left will be two large buildings shaped like a sheep dog and a sheep (no kidding!). Turn left at the sheep onto Okoroire Street, turn right onto Okoroire Road. Travel 6.5kms to a T intersection, turn right onto Somerville Road |
