We cook for you and are rated "Platinum Maple Leaf" (the highest available classification) by the Canada and Kiwi Bed and Breakfast Hosts (CBBH) association.

All bedrooms are double glazed for restful nights with either an en-suite shower and wash hand basin or a private bathroom and WC.
All bedrooms have direct dial cordless phones, TV, small digital safe, desk and chair, together with Wireless Internet access.

Except for an "OUR CHOICE" Overflow Room, our room rates include a tasty Kiwi breakfast which some guests enjoy taking on the verandah of our Irish rose garden - this is one of the sunniest spots in New Zealand. The (en suite and air-conditioned) Rose Room and upstairs bedroom rates include a delicious breakfast of your choice individually cooked to order together with fruit from our fruit bowl any time - we grow our own strawberries and walnuts organically. Help yourself to speciality teas and other hot and cold beverages and to ANZAC biscuits in the dining room.

We keep our Guest House completely SMOKE FREE! (Smoking is NOT allowed anywhere on Amber House's domain).

Built by a fugitive embezzler from County Kilkenny in 1897, our heritage home has good views to the Sugar Loaf and the Arthur Ranges on the other side of Tasman Bay from upstairs. Twin balconies afford fine views to the Centre of New Zealand and you can lie in the bath and watch the sheep grazing on the "Centre of New Zealand" ridge if you book our Balcony Suite - very peaceful!
Crystal chandeliers swing from ceilings more than 11 feet high downstairs.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

CHECK-IN: Although we live at Amber House, there are obviously many times when we are absent (to take the children Irish dancing or to go shopping for example). However, we would much prefer to be at home to welcome you when you arrive.
Please, therefore, advise us of your anticipated arrival time or any change to this arrival time. Our email address can be located on your booking confirmation form.

CHECK-IN times are only by prior arrangement - usually between 14:30 to 21:30hrs on the day of arrival and CHECK-OUT time should typically be before 10:35hrs on the day of departure - other times only by prior agreement.

It's REALLY IMPORTANT that you now e-mail us with the phone number of the mobile phone you will be carrying on the day you arrive so we can update each other with any last minute developments.

Getting There When you email us with your estimated arrival time we will probably be able to send you a key safe code and tips for an interesting itinerary.

By vehicle:
State Highway 6 to the Trafalgar Street roundabout (very first roundabout if you're coming from Pelorus Bridge; third roundabout in Nelson if coming from Murchison).
Turn South on Trafalgar Street (Nelson's main shopping street), then the first road on the left (Wainui Street) becomes Weka Street after 260 metres and 46 Weka Street is then the large, white, two storey house on the right after another 480m.

The City Tour Double Deckers and Intercity coaches stop right outside our front rose garden, as does the shuttle bus to and from the Abel Tasman National Park.

Nelson Airport is 12 minutes drive and, since it is New Zealand's 4th busiest airport, shuttle buses and taxis meet each arrival.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT:
Although we live at Amber House, there are obviously many times when we are away from home (swimming or shopping, for example). However, we would much prefer to be at home to welcome you when you arrive.

We are a B&B homestay and NOT a large Hotel.
We do not have check-in staff sitting at a front desk awaiting guest arrivals 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

Consequently, if immediately you make the booking on Wotif, you do NOT e-mail us with your anticipated arrival time or any change to this time, then you may have a long wait before our serendipitous return home to check you in!
(Our email address can be located next to our phone number at the top of your booking confirmation form.)

Parking Easy, free on-street parking is always available.
If you have a roof rack or other good reason, there are 3 on-site parking places available together with a garage for bikes and kayaks. Complimentary parking for up to 8 days.
Things To Do The city of Nelson has grown up around us so we are just a short stroll from the Theatre Royal, State Multiplex Cinema, Pheasant Plucker in the Bush Tavern and Sprig & Fern pubs, Jewellers and Craft Shops.

Opposite us is Founders Heritage Park with its Friday afternoon Farmers Market.

City buses (including the double decker city tour), most long distance coaches and the shuttle into the Abel Tasman National Park stop right outside our rose garden. The Miyazu Japanese Gardens, the Farmers Market in Founders Heritage Park, the Huangshi Chinese Garden in Queens Gardens, the Theatre Royal and a great beach are nearby and the Sprig and Fern Pub just a two minute stroll.
