The Talbot Hotel dates from the eighteenth century, and succeeds a much older inn which stood in Malton's market place at the sign of the Golden Talbot - a French hunting hound and the heraldic symbol of the ancient family of Eure. The "new" Talbot was the first in Ryedale to be called "a hotel" and was the town's posting house where coaches stopped to break their journeys from York and Leeds, to Scarborough and Whitby. But you will appreciate the historic architecture when you arrive at The Talbot today, but you enjoy the comforts, style and service which are right up to date! The welcoming lounge has comfortable sofas, fine antiques and a roaring log fire on chilly days. Here you can relax and enjoy our fresh filter coffee, a light lunch or even afternoon tea with home-baked scones, jam and cream - you can spoil yourself when you come and stay with us! Each of our 31 bedrooms has en-suite bathroom, colour television, radio, direct dial telephone and a welcome refreshments tray. Many rooms enjoy the view down to the River Derwent - get up early and you can catch a glimpse of the race horses taking their morning exercise along the river banks! The award winning Eden Camp and the magnificient Castle Howard are both just minutes away. |
