Stay at the Old Countryhouse and escape the hustle from the moment you step through the garden gate.

One of Christchurch's favourite backpacker hostels for 13 years. We invite you to take a walk along our garden path to one of our charming 19th century colonial villas with polished wooden floors and hand-made native timber furniture. All our villas have been fully restored and have everything to make your stay with us a memorable one. They are set among landscaped gardens, and have electronic secure access.

Choose from our comfortable double, twin, single or dorm rooms, some with ensuite bathrooms. Full European-style central heating in every room keeps you toasty warm during the winter months. Bedroom linen is provided. Groups are welcome and whole villas can be hired for private use.

The Old Countryhouse is well-equipped, with farmhouse style kitchens, warm guest lounge rooms, WiFi internet throughout, free off-street parking. Our staff are experienced in tourism, just ask at reception for tour and travel bookings and assistance.

The Old Countryhouse is situated in a very convenient location on the eastern side of the central city. Easy transport links from the airport, direct buses to the Riccarton shopping district as well as to local beaches leave right from our doorstep. We can organise 24-hour discount shuttle services from reception. There are a range of shops, restaurants and take-aways within 3 minutes walk, as well as a small supermarket 2 minutes away.

LATE ARRIVALS:
Late check-in can be arranged for bookings for PRIVATE ROOMS ONLY. YOU MUST EMAIL US DIRECTLY PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL if your require a Late Check-In as we are unable to accommodate your request otherwise. Sorry, NO REFUNDS are given for bookings into Dorm Rooms with arrivals outside our reception hours.

CHRISTMAS BOOKINGS:
We have a minimum stay period over Christmas and your booking MUST include the three nights of 24, 25 and 26 December otherwise your booking will not be accepted.

NEW YEAR:
We have a minimum stay period over New Year and your booking MUST include the three nights of 30 and 31 December and 1 January otherwise your booking will not be accepted.

Airport: Take either a shuttle bus or taxi from the outside of the arrival terminal. Or - catch the number 3 bus to the Bus Terminal. Change to the number 21 bus heading to Ferrymead. Ask the driver to let you off at the corner of Stanmore Road and Gloucester St.

Train: Take either a shuttle bus or taxi from the outside the train station.

Bus: Bus No. 83 'Burwood' and 21 'Mt. Pleasant' stop outside the property, ask the driver to let you off at the corner of Stanmore Road and Gloucester St.
Parking Free on-site carparking is available. Street parking is also available.
Things To Do Christchurch has a lot to offer with many local attractions. Ski the local fields within easy driving distance from Christchurch or take a stroll through Christchurch's Botanical Gardens. Visit the Christchurch Museum, The Air Force Museum, Willowbank Wildlife Park or Sumner Beach. Popular day trips from Christchurch include Lord of the Rings tour, Akaroa Dolphin Swim and Harbour Cruise, Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura Whale Watching.
Our staff are locals and would be more than happy to offer you some suggestions for local tourist activities, great walking and hiking areas, day trips or cycle hire. We can also book your transportation (train, ferry, bus services) and help with your onward planning.
