Stunning location on Punakaiki coastline overlooking the Tasman Sea., Breakers is set on 2 acres of native bush & landscaped gardens with private track for beach access. This is a Qualmark 4 start Guest & Hosted property with four guest rooms all guaranteed a fantastic sea view. All rooms are with ensuite bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities, and outdoor balcony/deck access with outdoor seating. Guests can lie in bed and watch the rolling surf and be lulled to sleep by the sound of the breaking waves. Breakfast is included and a 3 course dinner is available with advance notice. There is Al Fresco dining available with in-room menu and local beer and wine list. Sit in the comfort of your room and watch the sun go down, or alternatively sit outside on the balcony with the fresh sea air. A guest lounge is also available, equipped with large TV, large comfy sofas, DVD and CD players, selection of movies and music. Breakers is ideally situated to enjoy all the activities the West Coast has to offer with mountain biking, hiking, beach walking, gold and coal mining history, back-country exploration, cave rafting, surfing and fishing just to name a few, all in close proximity. Greymouth is 14kms to the south and Punakaiki and the Pancake Rocks are 30ksm to the north. Your host at Breakers has a wealth of knowledge of things to do in the area and is happy to help with itinerary suggestions. | Getting There |
Breakers is situated at Nine Mile Creek, on State Highway 6 (known locally as the Coast Road or Punakaiki highway). We are 14kms north of Greymouth and 30ksm south of Punakaiki. From north end of Greymouth, cross Grey River bridge and head right on SH6 towards Punakaiki. Pass thru Runanga and Rapahoe (7mile). We are at 9mile beach, on the left, just after crossing 9mile creek bridge - look out for the Strongman Mine Memorial. Coming from Punakaiki, look out for other creeks 14mile, 13mile and 10mile. We are at 9mile beach, on the right immediately after Strongman Mine Memorial sign and before crossing 9mile creek bridge. Coming from Greymouth, follow SH6 for 14kms from the Grey River bridge, towards Westport and Punakaiki. Pass through Runanga and Rapahoe. Up the hill with Strongman Mine Memorial at the top, come down the hill, SLOW DOWN, indicate left and we are directly on the left after crossing Nine Mile Creek bridge. Coming from Punakaiki, we are 30kms south of the Pancake Rocks. After Barrytown, pass over Fourteen Mile Creek, Thirteen Mile and Ten Mile. Sign for Strongman Mine Memorial and we are directly on the right after the sign but BEFORE crossing Nine Mile Creek bridge. From the train station in Greymouth, head up onto SH6 and over the bridge towards Westport and Punakaiki. Taxis cost around $30.00 one way. |

Meander along the beach at the base of Breakers, fossicking for greenstone. Rest and relax - have a holiday within your holiday and enjoy the sea views. Great place to base yourself for exploration of the West Coast with walks, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, surfing all in close proximity. Other adventures all easy driving distance with quad biking, cave rafting, glow-worms, jetboating, galleries, arts and crafts. Mountain biking, hiking and backcountry exploration. Gold and coal mining history with numerous trails, information boards and relics to explore. Cave rafting and glow-worms. On Yer Bike Adventures - Quad bike tours Surfing - you'll need your own gear but great left-break just off Breakers Fishing - we can arrange fishing trips for you, guided or unguided.
