| Getting There |
DIRECTIONS We reccommend HEMA road maps. They are very detailed with points of interest along the way. FROM THE NORTH : On leaving Auckland you will travel south on State Highway 1 (as far as the Thames/Coromandel turnoff to the east) : Go Past Bombay turnoff, Past Nikau/Ridge Rd Exit, Past Razorback Rd Exit Take Thames/Coromandel Peninsula Exit 477 onto State Highway 2. Travel 35km South/East on Highway 2 Take RH fork at next Thames/Coromandel intersection continue for 5km on Highway 2. At Matamata,Tirau/Tauranga turnoff go straight ahead for 100 metres on Highway 27. Turn right into North Road. Travel 2 km up North road to 228 (which is a rural fire no. ie 2.28 km from the main road) After 1 km you will be on a winding gravel road for 1 km and you will see our entrance (WESTWIND HOMESTAY). Ignore the small cottage on the left and come down the driveway to our house. If for some reason you miss our entrance the road is only 4 km to the top dead end so you can't get lost. Approx 1 hour south of Airport & One Tree Hill, Auckland City. FROM THE SOUTH : Travel on State highway 27 from Tirau through Matamata, Waharoa pass by Morrinsville turnoff. Throught Patetonga, up into the hills past Kaihere School. Turn into North road at Native Tree Company cafe Golf course on RHS. Follow above directions to our house. Approximately 45 mins from Matamata. FROM THAMES/COROMANDEL : Travel south from Thames, turn Left at the Kopu turnoff, cross onelane bridge with traffic lights. Head West on Hiway 25 through Pipiroa & Waitakaruru towards intersection of Hiway 25 & Hiway 2 (about 20 mins) At Tauranga/Matamata/Auckland Intersection turn left (south onto Highway 2) travel for 5km. Next intersection Tauranga/Matamata go staight ahead towards Matamata for 100 metres at Native Tree Cafe turn Right into North Rd. Follow above directions to our house. Approximately 35 mins from Thames. |

OTHER THINGS TO DO IN OUR AREA Shorebirds at Miranda : Wilderness Gems at Ngatea : New Zealand and World Wide selection of Crystal,Rocks. Shells and Gems. Ngatea Water Gardens : Uniquely designed 5 acre water gardens with a wide variety of plants and water features. (Closed July & Christmas Day) Piako Ostriches : Ostrich farm, tours at 11am and 2pm Thursday-Monday. (Closed June-September) Quality goods made from Ostrich leather, feathers and eggs, also meat tasting. (On the way to Turua.) Hauraki Golf Club:State Highway 2, Green Fees $15.00. Equipment Hire available $10.00 Bag.Bottom of our road, 5 minutes drive. Stroll 10 mins up our road after dinner to see the Gloworms nestled in the Native bushy banks to the side the road. |
