Set in a quiet location in Turangi town area, just 5 minutes drive from state highway 1 or 47, with large grounds and relaxing gardens, easy 10 minute stroll to shops, banks, bars, restaurants, bus station and Information Centre. A Plus Lodge is your ideal budget hostel for Tongariro Alpine Crossing in Tongariro National Park, for skiing/snowboarding in Whakapapa ski field (48km to Whakapapa village), fishing in Tongariro River or Lake Taupo, and even for a break as your halfway point between Auckland and Wellington on State Highway One! Whakapapa ski field and Tongariro Alpine Crossing shuttle bus leaves from A Plus Lodge. A Plus Lodge consists of three level accommodation blocks, one complex block consisting of kitchen, dining, common room, and laundry block. The walk ways from the main complex block to accommodation blocks are all covered. We pride ourselves on cleanliness and offering tidy accomodation,large professional kitchen, spacious gardens and a large outdoor living area. The 2 accommodation blocks are separated from the main complex block, this ensures maximum privacy. Each of the accommodation block is equipped with its own communal bathrooms & toilets. The lodge is fully fenced and has plenty of off-street parking spaces.Gates are locked at night for added security. All rooms are non-smoking and equipped with beds or bunks, mattresses, bottom sheet, pillows, pillow cases, linen & duvet. Bed(s)in single room, double/Queen-size rooms are fully made up. All rooms have a washing basin shaving socket for your convenience (except in dormitories). Backpacker accommodation: Dormitory room is the cheapest option - Sleep up to 7 or 8 people, with 3 or 4 sets of solid bunks and a single bed respectively. Pillows, linen & duvet is included in price. Twin bed room: Two single beds. Pillow and cases, fitted sheets are supplied. A washing basin and electric shaving socket is available in the room for your convenience. Linen & duvet is included in price. Share bed room: Sleeps up to 4 or 5 people - Two sets of solid bunks/a single bed respectively. Chairs or sofa, pillows and cases, fitted sheet are supplied. A washing basin and electric shaving socket as in the room for your convenience. Linen & duvet is included in price Single bed room: One single bed - For single traveler who wants their own privacy. Chair, pillow and case, fitted sheet, linen and duvet are supplied. There is a washing basin and electric shaving socket in room for your convenience. Double bed room: One standard double bed. Chairs or sofa, linen and duvet are supplied, a washing basin and electric shaving socket is in the room for your convenience. Queen-size double bed room: A Queen-size double bed - For a couple. From the South: Head northward towards Taupo on State Highway 1. Turn left off State Highway 1 onto 41 towards National Park when you close to Turangi. Turn right onto Puataata Road at the second intersection after you enter State Highway 41 (about 1 km). Turn to Iwiheke Place at your second left (about 600m), then you can find A Plus Lodge. From the North: Head southward towards Palmerston North from Taupo and turn right off State Highway 1 onto Turangi following signpost to Information Center (Pihanga road). Turn left onto Ohuanga road after Information Center. About 100m, turn right onto Tautahanga road. About 500m, turn left at your second left to Puataata road. Turn right about 500m (second right) onto Iwiheke Place and you can find A Plus Lodge. Tongariro National Park – Tongariro Alpine Crossing/Hiking/Trekking/Walking Tongariro National park is one of few regions around the world which has been internationally recognized as a dual World Heritage area - natural world heritage area and cultural world heritage area - one of about 15 such sites in the world. The 18.5 kilometers Tongariro Alpine Crossing in the Tongariro National Park is most popularly described as the best one day trek and a world-renowned trek in New Zealand. It provides you an opportunity to experience some of the most scenic and active volcanic areas of the Tongariro National Park. Steaming vents, hot springs, old lava flows, beautiful water filled explosion craters and stunning views. Skiing/Snowboarding Whakapapa Ski field on Mount Ruapehu is New Zealand's largest developed ski area. Turangi is one of the closet towns to the Whakapapa ski fields, just about 35 minutes drive from the Lodge. Turangi is a great base for those who wish to come off the mountain and enjoy hot pools, good accommodation and alternative activities on non skiing days. During the height of the ski season thousands flock to Whakapapa on the eastern side of the mountain. Taupo and Lake Taupo Lake Taupo – the largest lake in New Zealand, is world renowned for trout fishing - all year round activity, lake or river. With hundreds of bays, coves and beaches you can always find a quiet spot for fishing. If you want to experience skydiving, Taupo is the absolute best place for this! Also, Maori cultural performance at Wairakei Terraces should not to be missed. The best place to find out what is going on in the Taupo area is to go to the Destination Lake Taupo to see the events! Tongariro River – Trout fishing Tongariro River, open for fishing all year round, is renowned for its outstanding steelhead and brown trout fishing in the crystal clear water that flows through numerous of pools as it winds its way to Lake Taupo. Run by the Department of Conservation, the Tongariro National Trout Centre is located just 5 kilometers to the south of Turangi on SH 1. With a under water viewing chamber, picnic and barbecue areas, it is an ideal two hours scenic cruise to experience the stunning scenery and birdlife in southern Lake Taupo. |
