A self rated 3 & 1/2 star luxury Safari Lodge with ensuite facilities, the Jabiru Safari Lodge is sited on picturesque Clancy's Lagoon within the Mareeba Tropical Savanna and Wetland Reserve. It is located an hour west of Cairns on the northern edge of the Cairns Highlands/Atherton Tablelands, and provides a sanctuary for outback wildlife, including a number of Australia’s rarest bird species. The 2000 hectare Wildlife Reserve is one of the most important regional sites for native wildlife, with over 206 recorded bird species, including a unique Gouldian Finch reintroduction project, funded entirely by sustainable tourism. The reserve is open from 9-4.30pm and staying at one of three luxury Jabiru Safari Lodges or one of two eco cabins allows exclusive access to the best bird and wildlife viewing times at dawn and dusk. The Jabiru Safari Lodge offers small-group sunset tours of the Reserve, complete with a quiet electric motor eco-cruise to view waterbirds, a visit to a wetland bird-hide and a stop to boil the billy. The sunset over Clancy's Lagoon is welcomed with wine and cheese on the deck and provides a suitable finale to a magical experience. In addition to numerous waterbirds, the endangered Buff-breasted Button Quail is also endemic. Staying at the Jabiru Safari Lodge entitles you to free annual membership of the Wildlife Conservancy of Tropical Queensland. Since opening in 1999, the Reserve has become an award winning important major regional attraction for visitors, providing visitor facilities, walking trails, bird-watching eco-cruises, canoes and a Sunset Safari to allow you to explore the reserve at the best time of the day. The exclusive accommodation consists of three African-style tented safari cabins with ensuite hot showers and flushing toilets and 2 solar-powered eco cabins. Each safari cabin is equipped with a double and single bed, fridge and a decking with tables and chairs. Coffee and tea making facilities and a toaster are provided. A new addition to the lodge is a spa tub, to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. In keeping with the eco-tourist nature of the experience, phones, radio and television are not available in the rooms. Mobile phone coverage is available. A resident Camp Host will assist with any requests or problems. A breakfast pack is included in the rate. Evening BBQ meals can be self-catered or a BBQ pack can be ordered with at least 12 hours notice and paid direct to the office. The Overflow Cafe at Clancy's Lagoon provides lunch options. Alternative dining options can be had by driving 15 minutes to Mareeba. All Safari cabins are equipped with a limited minibar. Special requests may be made in advance for specific products. For those without transport, transfers from Cairns can be organised. ** Ecotourism Australia Certification - Want to help the environment while your on holidays? The ECO Certification logo means that you are guaranteed to experience a genuine and authentic tour, attraction or accommodation that looks after the environment.
