"Holyrood House" is a couple of minutes walk from Vincent Street, the main street, with its restaurants, shops, and the lake. The property is nearly an acre of magnificent gardens, parts of which date back to 1864. The first part of the house was built in 1864 and was the Residence of the Town Clerk, Donald McLeod. He enlarged it in 1905 and it now contains 3 B&B rooms, all with their own facilities, and a self-contained cottage. The major public rooms include a guest lounge complete with an 1869 Erard Concert Grand Piano, a large fully licensed function room, originally the billiard room, where dinners from 10 to 20 can be arranged with either western or asian cuisine. We also have the Drawing Room where drinks can be served in front of the open fire and breakfast may be served in the morning. This room has access to a west facing deck under the protection and shade of a golden elm tree. There are 5 fires that burn in the winter and the whole property is hydronically heated. Large verandahs, extensive gardens and deck give a variety of locations for guests to sit out and relax or enjoy a drink, or tea/coffee served by your hosts. This house is a place for the mature to relax and enjoy time out away from the stresses of life. Please do not be offended, but our property is not suitable for children. Our B&B is a very traditional country house style hosted accommodation. We love to have groups coming to celebrate an occasion, a birthday, a wedding, or an anniversary. We can arrange for additional guests, over 8 that we can accommodate, to be housed nearby if required. There are 3 B&B rooms, 2 with queen beds and ensuite facilities and the third has a king/twin arrangement. This also has a spa bathroom just down the hall, exclusively for that room. We serve a complimentary drink from the bar each evening, either in front of the fire in the winter or in the garden, on the verandah or deck in the summer. A full 3 course cooked breakfast is served each morning. Our self contained suite, "The Apsley Suite" consists of 3 rooms, a sitting room with Tv/Dvd, a fully stocked kitchenette, a queen bedroom and large spa bathroom, its own private deck overlooking the rose garden. Cooked breakfast can be delivered to the suite if required. Small conferences are a speciality and we have three rooms available. The main function room/restaursant can seat up to 20 people for a meal/meeting. Meals and light refreshments are produced in our fully licensed commercial kitchen. **PLEASE NOTE**: - This property is not suitable for children - This property is NON SMOKING - Smoking areas on the deck and verandahs are, however, available. |

| Things To Do |
Daylesford- Hepburn Springs is the Spa Capital of Australia and there are many facilities available for treatments, spas, massage and beauty therapies in the vicinity. The Spa House at Hepburn has full public facilities of pool, sauna, steam room and spa pool in mineral water. This area of Victoria was the main gold mining area in the mid to late 1800's. Ballarat and Bendigo are within about an hour each in a differing direction from Daylesford thus making this town a perfect place to use as a hub to explore the gold mining places that dot the local countryside. Within the town are a number of very well known landmarks such as the 'Lake House', one of Victoria's finest restaurants, just a few minutes walk from our front door. Similarly the 'Convent Gallery' is a fascinating building on the side of Wombat Hill. Famous as a wedding venue and also having a cafe, and many galleries of differing artworks. 'Lavendula' is a lavender farm at Shepards Flat, approximately 8 km from Hepburn Springs, with 20 plus acres of lavender and an old Swiss-Italian farm house. Opposite this is 'Cricket Willow' where the first willow trees were imported from UK to make bats and the tradition still continues. The Botanical Gardens on Wombat Hill were laid out in the 1860's and have some rare and spectacular examples particularly of cyprus and firrs. During the season there is an annual display of begonias in the glass houses. |
