For the history and story lover, but everyone LOVES it. Unique B&B, Mulberry Cottage, Richmond Tasmania, offers every alternative of accommodation: charming, hosted traditional and home stay style attics, themed en-suite studios, or self- contained accommodation in Christmas Cottage, on site. Mulberry Cottage B&B is a cosy “olde worlde” cottage home situated off the road and set in rustic gardens. It is built from the reclaimed wall of Hobart’s Old Penitentiary and situated in the beautiful Georgian village of Richmond. Christmas Cottage is in a secluded corner of the garden and “is Christmas all the year round”. Accommodation is in either the Old English Room with garden/valley view and its own entrance, or the cheeky French Boudoir both with en-suites sitting rooms and TV. As the Garden Wing it is ideal for small groupswith ajoining door. Or the Attic rooms, are more home- stay style, upstairs, in the main house, with private bathroom, one is a queen the other a twin. Host must be contacted for access to the Attics. Guest lounge and rustic gardens, a welcome drink and greeting retrievers. ( NB Do not book the Attics if allergies to cat or dogs thank you).Both areas are ideal for small groups. Continental breakfast is included where stated and is served in the charming dining room. Christmas Cottage, where it is "Christmas all year round" and with a lovely valley view can take two adults in the Chapel bedroom and up to four others in the bed-nook and living area. Breakfast provisions can be delivered to the cottage . Walk to the village for dinner. And you can take advantage of the history nearby; historic icons such as the oldest bridge in Australia the oldest Roman Catholic church, an even older Anglican Church and a complete Gaol, earlier than Port Arthur. Great restaurants in walking distance. Vin-yards and river walks. Non smoking property. NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. Only 15 mins to the airport and 20mins to Hobart. Great base for seeing the South and East. Your hostess will be a performer at the English Heritage Festival of History weekend in July '09. For the history and story lover, the project also won a Highly Commended Award in the Tourism Tasmania Awards 2006 Cultural Heritage section with this unique “Brilliant” entertainment, by your hostess, a performance of 'Turn the Key of Time' about a cottage, a key and a convict in Grannie Rhodes' Cottage, on site 1830, a unique 50 minute experience of Tasmania’s history told through the story of Maria Wilby who came to join her convict father in 1827. Be “entranced and en-wrapped” in 200 years of history. The1830’s cottage is the stage at Richmond, southeast Tasmania a 30-minute drive northeast of Hobart (25 k). | Getting There |
Car is necessary. Local buses are limited, a twice a weekday shuttle bus to & from Hobart. Directions for Mulberry Cottage: Drive into Richmond via Cambridge (near airport), & then 12 minutes to the main crossroads in the centre of the village. Take the left turn to Campania (follow blue signs). Grannie Rhodes' and Mulberry Cottage are 300m on the left in the dip. Drive right up the driveway, call our mobile if there are any problems or if the host is not there. From the North; turn left 11km south of Oatlands you are then on the right road as you enter Richmond after 40 minutes. Mention Mulberry Cottage B&B for a good recommended deal with Europcar. |

Off-street parking is available for eight cars on site, well off the road. This is a private home and in a residential area , please come and go quietly thank you. |

Grannie's Show on site.( 45 minutes) A "MUST SEE" Everyone loves it.Village tours available.Richmond is Australia’s finest Georgian village, a lovely place and a good base to stay warranting more than one night to cover all there is to see. Visit the oldest bridge in Australia and the oldest Roman Catholic Church, the Oldest Gaol, Oak Lodge, Old Hobart Town Model Village and the many shops and art galleries all within walking distance. Taste Tasmania’s best wines at the local vineyards and visit the South of the state. Only 25 minutes from all Hobart's interesting sites and 1½ hours to Port Arthur and the East Coast attractions. "Turn the Key of Time at Grannie Rhodes" Richmond, is a 45 minute award winning play and cottage tour on site. Other stories available on request. |
