Chocolate School in-house featuring 2 hour courses to weekend live-in courses.

Getting There It is possible to reach our property by bus from Melbourne to Yarram via the South Gippsland Highway then taxi to Tarra Valley. There are only two bus services to Yarram a day.

By Car: WE DO NOT RECOMMEND DRIVING VIA THE GRAND RIDGE RD AS IT IS POORLY MAINTAINED & UNSEALED.

There are three principal ways to drive to our retreat:
Option 1: We recommend driving via the South Gippsland Highway to Yarram. It is the longest but easiest way with the least windy roads. On the north side of Yarram you will see a T-intersection marked with C484 and Tarra Bulga National Park near the Yarram Hospital and St.Mary's Primary School. Turn left. Turn right at the next sign posted C484 T-intersection. Turn left at the 3rd C484 signed T-intersection then turn right at the last C484 signed T-intersection. Our retreat is approximately 10kms from this last turn and 18kms from the first turn-off in Yarram. Please stay on sealed roads.

Option 2: This drive is very scenic but not recommended when dark as the Strzelecki Ranges are full of wallabies and wombats at night. Drive to Traralgon via the M1/Princes Highway. Get in the right-hand lane approaching Traralgon. Turn right at traffic lights under train bridge then turn left towards Yarram & Hyland Highway at round-a-bout. Turn right at next round-a-bout following signs to C482/Hyland Highway and Yarram.
Turn right at second right intersection at traffic lights sign posted with C483. Continue past small township of Traralgon South. Shortly after town, turn right down Redhill Rd which is straight after a green concrete bus shelter on your right. Make sure you slow down as the turn is difficult to see. This is a shortcut and will take at least
10 minutes off your journey if you were to continue on the other road. Turn right at T-intersection. Continue past Mt.Tassie, so-called because you can see Flinders Island in fine weather. Turn right at the T-intersection signed C484. Drive to Balook. Keep on the main road as it veers right past the Tarra Bulga Guest House. Drive for approximately 7-8kms.
Turn left at T-intersection to Tarra Valley. DO NOT CONTINUE PAST THIS INTERSECTION AS THIS BECOMES THE UNSEALED SECTION OF THE GRAND RIDGE ROAD. You are now driving right through the Tarra Bulga National Park full of fern gullies. As such, the road is narrow and windy (not great if you are prone to car sickness!) but extremely beautiful. Drive for approximately 10kms down Tarra Valley Rd. We are 1km past the Tarra Valley Tourist Park on the left-hand side.

Option 3: This is a good option at night if you do not wish to drive via the South Gippsland Highway.
(Follow the directions as above for Option 2 until Traralgon...)
Drive straight to Yarram via Gormandale. There are no turns after the Gormandale section. Many guests mistakenly turn right onto the Grand Ridge Rd off the Hyland Highway before Yarram and find themselves on unsealed road full of local wildlife at night. Unfortunately this is easy to do as the sign gives this way as an alternative route to Yarram! Just make sure you drive on the main road to Yarram. Shortly upon arriving at Yarram you will see several signs directing you to the C484 & Tarra Bulga National Park. Turn right at this T-intersection. Turn right at the next C484 signed T-intersection. Turn left at the 3rd T-intersection then turn right at the last T-intersection. Our retreat is approximately 10kms from this last turn and 18kms from the first turn-off in Yarram. Please stay on sealed roads.
Parking We offer off-street parking in front of the chalet.
Things To Do Tarra Bulga National Park - one of only four remaining cool-temperate rainforests in Victoria. As pristine and lush as the rainforest in Tasmania. Great barbeque and seating facilities throughout park. There are some great swimming holes in the Tarra River adjacent to the house to cool off in the hot weather.

1km from local kiosk serving great light lunches and Devonshire teas in a cottage garden under a beautiful hill full of tree ferns.

Tarra Valley is home to two famous open gardens. One has hertitage-listed trees/plants.

Yarram features some great art deco buildings and the historic Courthouse Building now housing the tourist information centre, an art gallery and craft shop.

Port Albert is a delightful fishing village with a much busier history, rivalling Port Melbourne in terms of trade in the 1860's and is Gippsland's first port. Great fish & chips are to be had featuring local flathead at the wharf. The award-winning Port Albert Maritime Museum tells the fascinating history of the port and family histories. The Port Albert General Store has been newly renovated to feature a cafe/bistro & art gallery and and is a great place to while away a few hours in the courtyard. Port Albert also features long walks following the Nooramunga Marine National Park with interesting birdlife, some of which migrate from the Antarctic.

Woodside Beach is part of the famous 90-Mile Beach and is only a 15-20 minute drive from Yarram on the road to Sale. Patrolled in summer, this is a great beach to walk and swim.

A 1 hour drive will get you to the gates of the Wilson's Promontory National Park which makes it a great day trip.

Similarly, the charms of South Gippsland are also very close. A fun day trip can be enjoyed stopping at little towns such as Inverloch, Meeniyan & Toora popping into cafes, potters and galleries.

If you are a fan of beer, you can enjoy a day trip to the Grand Ridge Brewery at Mirboo North. We recommend doing a round trip via the South Gippsland Highway then driving up to Mirboo North. Enjoy lunch and a tour around the brewery. Drive up to the Princes Highway to Trafalgar. Pop in to Yarragon Village to browse around the shops the drive home to the retreat.

There are also a growing number of wineries within one hour of Tarra Valley many of which offer light lunches and tastings.

We can arrange joy flights, fishing charters in season and hands-on chocolate making courses for your enjoyment. The Yarram Golf Course is an excellent volunteer-run scenic course and has been listed in the top 10% of public golf courses in Victoria.
