"Airlie House" was built in 1895 and today is an elegant, Victorian Mansion landmark on the New England Highway at Scone. It has a reputation as one of the best motels and restaurants in the Upper Hunter. "Airlie House" and the accompanying modern Motor Inn are set on two and a half acres of established gardens with many magnificent roses, and expansive lawns with shady trees. In the garden and lawn area is a half-court tennis court and a large swimming pool for guests. Within historic "Airlie House" is the Hunter Country Restaurant with our bar with open fireplace. We are near to the center of town and to its facilities. Location: Scone is located in what many believe is the most beautiful part of the Hunter Valley and is the perfect base to explore our local wineries, Barrington Tops, Lake Glenbawn, Burning Mountain and is within easy reach of Tamworth, Morpeth and the Lower Hunter Wine Country. Scone is recognised as the Horse Capital of Australia, and a full calendar of sporting, social and cultural events occurs throughout the year. "Airlie House" Motor Inn and Restaurant is located on the New England Highway at Scone, New South Wales. Coming from Sydney, Newcastle or Muswellbrook, we are located near the beginning of the Scone CBD, on the left hand side of the highway. Coming from Tamworth or Dubbo, we are located at the far end of the Scone CBD, on the right hand side of the highway. |

Scone is located in what many believe is the most beautiful part of the Hunter Valley and is the perfect base to explore our attractions such as local wineries, Barrington Tops, Lake Glenbawn, Burning Mountain and is within easy reach of Tamworth. THE TOWNSHIP OF SCONE - Elizabeth Park and Gabriel Sterk's Sculpture of the Mare and Foal - The Heritage Walk around Scone - The Scone Historical Museum - Open Wednesday and Sundays - Pay's Flying Museum - the largest collection of actual flying Warbirds in Australia, including the only flying Spitfire in the country. This is a private collection and prior appointment must be made. - The Australian Stock Horse Society Heritage Centre, Guernsey Street, Scone. A history of the stock horse in Australia. - Scone Racecourse (on Merriwa Road) THE WONDERS OF NATURE - Lake Glenbawn. This lake built as a dam, holds twice the water of Sydney Harbour and is one of New South Wales best fresh water fishing spots. Watch out for historic Allan Bridge - said to be one of the few remaining suspension Bridges left in NSW. It is on the Allan Bridge Road near Lake Glenbawn at the Pages River crossing. - Burning Mountain Nature Reserve. A unique underground burning coal seam 20km north of Scone estimated to have been burning at least 5,500 years. Take the walking trail from the picnic area - Barrington Tops National Park. There are many walking tracks and lookouts, and the variations in altitude mean that you can see subtropical rainforest and snow gums all in a days walk |
