Killyrudden is a three storied hillside home built on the side of an old (extinct) volcano known locally as Mount Paku, just inside the entrance to Tairua Harbour. We are a Qualmark 4 Star rated establishment and our premises reflect this with well appointed and tastefully decorated rooms and with many added features such as robes and slippers, toiletries, hairdryers and writing facilities. The spa pool is offered as an amenity for the enjoyment of guests to share. It has a clear roof to watch the stars and side blinds to roll up to enjoy the view or roll down for all weather comfort. Laundry washing is offered as a free service. From all rooms your view takes in the ever-changing tidal patterns of the harbour up to the volcanic peaks of the skyline. The rooms open onto elevated decks from where guests may enjoy dramatic sights as the sun sets behind "The Pinnacles". We have three guest rooms. Two double rooms, with queen-sized beds are adjoining, each with its own ensuite. French doors open onto a deck adjoining the spa pool area. The twin room with king-single beds is located one level up and is linked by an outside stairway to the spa pool area. Our location is an easy 1 3/4 hours drive from Auckland Airport and is your perfect base to explore the Coromandel Region. Thames, Coromandel Town, Whitianga and Whangamata are short trips away and in between you have surfing and swimming beaches, native bush reserves with fabulous old Kauri trees and many, many spectacular coastal formations including famous Cathedral Cove and of course the unique Hot Water Beach is just 20 mins. drive. Breakfasts are our specialty and are served al- fresco if the weather permits. For day touring, we are happy to make up a hamper for you; and for dining, we are fortunate to have many good restaurants in Tairua, three within a short walk away. A three course dinner may be prepared for you in house,(by prior arrangement only). We are pleased to host guests for complimentary pre-dinner drinks and hors-deuvres. In addition, we also have wines, beers and soft drinks available for purchase. Tairua is a small friendly holiday town on the East Coast of the rugged and bush-clad Coromandel Peninsular. Tairua offers spectacular Coromandel views from many vantage points. We have been told the lookout at the summit of Mount Paku (our location) in one overseas publication, is rated rated as one of the best 100 views in the world. From there a 360 degree panorama takes in off-shore islands of the Mercury Group, the Aldermen Group and closer inshore, Shoe and Slipper Islands (all named by Captain Cook). Continuing the vista, we look over the neighbouring resort town of Pauanui, the Tairua Harbour which merges into the Tairua River and stretches up to the mountainous backbone of the Coromandel Peninsular. Swinging further round we take in the sweep of golden sand that is the Tairua Ocean Beach, popular with surfers. A number of Charter and Fishing Boats operate from the Tairua and Pauanui wharves and a passenger ferry service runs regularly between the two. Tairua is a centre for recreational divers with the off-shte islands being a great attraction. Bush-walking and tramping are also popular and local expert operators can conduct personalised tours through our native bush and inland scenic oportunities with safety and comfort. |

| Getting There |
From Auckland, take State Highway (SH) 1 on the Southern Motorway to Pokeno, turn left onto SH2 and follow the signs to Thames via SH25. Just after crossing a long, traffic light controlled one way bridge, you reach Kopu. Turn right following the sign to Tairua and Whangamata. 88 metres past Kopu turn left onto SH25A. Follow SH25A till you reach Tairua after a 35 min. drive. Turn off to the right onto Manaia Road, in the centre of the shopping centre. (If you are coming from the north via Whitianga, turn off to the leftjust before the town on Ocean Beach Road. Once on either road, head for Paku which is the unmistakable landmark mount at the harbour entrance. Follow the road up Paku (Paku Drive) until you reach Motuhoa Road, a sharp turn to the left about half way up. We are number 16. |
