Only one hour north of Auckland - Matakana is only a ten minutes drive and seven minutes to Warkworth. This tranquil property is close to every activity that will cater for all tastes. The accommodation, situated on a biodynamic vineyard has stunning water views and offers serviced apartments at the end of the vineyard or bed & breakfast in the main house at The Saltings. The Bed & Breakfast has three double ensuite bedrooms in the main house and a full cooked breakfast is included in the rates. The two apartments at the end of the vineyard are serviced daily and breakfast provisions for the first morning are provided in the rates Each apartment has an ensuite bedroom, full kitchen facilities, a lounge, dining room and decks. In the upper apartment (Bordeaux), there is a log fire for winter warmth and French doors lead onto the decks for al fresco dining in the warm weather. The two apartments combined can sleep up to six people. Please enquire direct to The Saltings for rates for the second ensuite superking bedroom in the Bordeaux apartment (one party bookings only). Both the apartment lounges are equipped with Sky Sports TV, stereo, DVD, a small library, telephone and wireless internet access for your lap top. A computer is available for use in the guest lounge at the main house. Both properties have a Qualmark rating of 4 star plus and all rooms have French doors leading onto a private patio or deck and wireless internet access for your laptop. We are within walking distance to the ferries for Kawau Island, beach and cafe and only a 10 minute drive to Matakana with its wineries and award winning restaurants - including The Ascension Vineyard, The Tapiano Bar & Bistro and The Vintry Bar where you can enjoy a tasting of all the locally grown wines. Then there is the famous Morris & James Pottery and Cosi Cafe, three beautiful state of the art movie theatres, The Brick Bay Sculpture Trail and several art galleries. The Farmers markets at Matakana are held every Saturday morning (and Wednesday afternoons in the Summer). The pretty town of Warkworth is only seven minutes away and has many attractive shops, restaurants and a large supermarket. Our vineyard is cultivated using natural methods and biodynamic principles. The grapes are hand-picked and grown on a warm, north facing slope overlooking the Sandspit estuary. We produce a Syrah and Bordeaux style wines which are available to anyone over the age of eighteen to purchase through our web site. On site wine tasting with an anti-pasta platter and a tour of our vineyard is offered @ $30 per person which can be arranged directly with The Saltings (for house guests only). Advance notice is essential for this activity. |

| Getting There |
From Auckland take State Highway 1 and drive for one hour north of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. At Warkworth, remain on SH1 and then turn right at the second set of traffic lights following the sign to Sandspit. Drive approximately five minutes then a sign will say turn left for Sandspit. Drive down the winding road and when water views can be seen you will find our sign a hundred metres on the right. Drive up the gravel driveway. The main house is at the top on the left. |

Relax and enjoy the beautiful view or take a stroll around our biodynamic vineyard. Wine tasting on site for in house guests or at one of the many local vineyards. Kayaking. Snorkling at the Marine Reserve at Leigh. Day sailing. Ferry trips to Kawau Island. Golfing. Hiking around our beautiful Tawharanui National Park and here in Sandspit. Lovely safe beaches for swimming. Fantastic restaurants, cafes and art galleries abound. Superb, state of the art movie theatres at Matakana where you can take your glass of wine or cup of coffee. The Saturday morning market in Matakana (and Wedmesday afternoons in the Summer months) is hugely popular with live music, fresh local organic produce, bagels and coffee. |
