| Things To Do |
Lots of people ask us “What is there to do in Dunedin?” Well... where do we begin? Our beautiful city is nestled amongst the surrounding hills, a harbour view on one side and open to the sea on another. It has a wide variety of attractions, places to see and experience first-hand and certainly it requires a few days to really see it all. In the city itself there is the University of Otago (New Zealand’s first). The 20 000 students flocking into the city at the beginning of the academic year provide a colourful addition to the population as well as a youthful North Dunedin area. There are speciality shops, fashion houses (indeed Dunedin produces some of New Zealand’s finest fashion designers), restaurants, cafes, bars, cinemas, theatres, galleries, the serene Chinese Garden, Cadbury World (a chocolate factory you can tour), Speights Brewery (the oldest in the Southern Hemisphere) and a boutique casino. Dunedin is historically rich and much of its history and the golden glory days can be seen in some of its fine architecture and attractions. Visit the Otago Museum, The Otago Early Settlers’ Museum, the Railway Station, the Municipal Chambers, First Church and the historic Olveston house to see how Dunedin was the most pioneering and influential city in early New Zealand. A must see for even the shortest of stays is the Otago Peninsula, with its unique wildlife - the majestic albatross, the rare yellow-eyed penguins and the loafing seals – thriving in their natural habitat. Larnach Castle (New Zealand’s only castle) with its internationally acclaimed garden, tragic personal history and well- restored interior is well worth the visit. So the decision of how to see Dunedin and its outlying areas is yours, whether it is on foot, by car, on a cruise, double-decker bus or by train. We can book you on visits to all the major attractions and on most of the best trips at no extra cost and have it charged to your motel bill. |
