This is the second Lodge that Peter and Glennis Meier have built. Peter and Glennis are well known in the accommodation industry for their award winning Cliff Edge By The Sea Lodge, in Port Opua Bay Of Islands. The Bay of Islands Lodge, which opened on the 1st of December 2004, is a five room boutique guest lodge, set in a native bush canopy with stunning views out over The Bay Of Islands. The Lodge is set on two levels, the entrance leading into the open kitchen, large lounge and dining room, then down a short flight of stairs or elevator to the guest rooms. Each room, with its super king bed, looks out over the native flora and fauna toward Russell and The Bay Of Islands. Each room has its own bathroom (with underfloor heating), walk in wardrobe and all the mod cons like television, stereo system, high speed Internet connection, DVD player etc. In room creature comforts include bathrobes, slippers, quality bathroom amenities and turn down service. Single beds. For our guests who require single beds, our super king size beds can be split to form two separate single beds. Guest lounge and dining area. The guest lounge and dining room are separated by the state-of-the-art open kitchen. The lounge area, with its extensive library and CD collection, boasts all the comforts of home. For example, leather lounges, Persian carpets, extensive open bar, open fire and large balcony where guests can bask in the sun and watch the boats go by. | Getting There |
BOI Lodge is situated at the top of Opua Hill. 5 minutes car travel from Paihia. Driving: If guests are driving north from Auckland on State Highway 1, when they reach the town of Kawakawa, follow the road marked State Highway 11. This will take them to Opua and Paihia, in The Bay Of Islands. Kawakawa is only 12 kilometres from The Bay Of Islands Lodge. When guests arrive at Opua Hill, veer left around the bend, and when they reach the top of the hill, they will see a large blue and gold sign indicating the Bay Of Islands Lodge. This sign is on their right. Guests should turn right into a private concrete drive, which is located just past the sign on the right-hand side of the road. Flying: Guest arriving at Auckland Intenational Airport can take a domestic flight to Kerikeri airport in The Bay of Islands. They then have the option of catching a taxi shuttle to Opua, or arranging for us to collect them from Kerikeri Airport. If guests request for us to collect them from Kerikeri, we charge NZD50.00 for the transfer. The driving time from Kerikeri Airport to The Lodge is approx 25-30 minutes. |
| Parking |
Car parking is limited to guest vehicles only. The car parking is off-street down a private drive. There is no undercover parking available. The area is secure and hence guest's vehicles are secure too. We encourage guests to exercise normal security concerning their vehicles and lock all doors and close windows. All guests will be met by the Manager, or a staff member, and shown where to park. We do not charge guests for parking. |
| Things To Do |
The Bay offers a wide array of activities from game fishing to recreational fishing, to a gambit of other water associated pleasures like sailing, power-boating, kayaking, snorkelling, scuba-diving, dolphin watching and parasailing. Off the water there are a multitude of things to do, like a walk through a nearby rainforest, or, energy levels permitting, on to Paihia along the scenic foreshore. Play a round of golf at Waitangi, Kerikeri or Kauri Cliffs. |
