The Clarion Hotel & Suites Selby was voted by toronto.com as Toronto’s best bargain hotel for 2003. The hotel is located in downtown Toronto, walking distance from the subway and the trendy Yorkville shopping district and in close proximity to many of Toronto’s finest attractions, entertainment and financial districts. The Clarion Hotel & Suites Selby is a 1880s Historical Landmark. A Victorian Mansion offering downtown Toronto's most unique accommodations, the mansion has been providing hospitality to travelers since 1915. The hotel has a rich and colourful history recognized by the Toronto Historical Board. It was originally built as a private home for the Gooderham family in 1882. In 1910, a large multi-room complex was added to the Victorian mansion, and was transformed into an exclusive girl’s school today’s Branson Hall. In 1915 the property was converted into a residential hotel; during the 1920’s, Ernest Hemingway and his wife Hadley resided at the hotel. Today the hotel features 82 completely renovated guestrooms and meeting space. The hotel is conveniently located close to shopping, dining, sightseeing, and Sherbourne subway station located across the street. Driving from Detroit/Windsor: Take Highway 401 East up to Highway 427 South. Follow 427 South to the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Expressway), which will merge into the Gardiner Expressway. Proceed on the Gardiner Expressway, exit Jarvis Street. Head North on Jarvis Street to Bloor Street, turn right on Bloor Street (East). Continue on Bloor Street till Sherbourne, turn right on Sherbourne St. (South). The hotel is one block south on the right hand side entrance from Selby Street. Driving from Niagara Falls: Take QEW (Queen Elizabeth Expressway), which will merge into the Gardiner Expressway. Proceed on the Gardiner Expressway, exit Jarvis Street. Head North on Jarvis Street to Bloor Street, turn right on Bloor Street (East). Continue on Bloor Street till Sherbourne, turn right on Sherbourne St. (South). Driving from Eastern Canada: Take 401 West towards Toronto. Exit the DonValley Parkway South. Continue on DonValley South, exit Bayview/Bloor. Proceed West on Bloor Street to Sherbourne Street. At Sherbourne Street turn left (South). The hotel is located one block south on the right side. The hotel is one block south on the right hand side entrance from Selby Street.
