Dalat has its fair share of attractions but arguably its greatest lure is the serene atmosphere it boasts which is the total opposite to the hectic streets of Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. It's a haven for trendy young Vietnamese artists, honeymooning couples, tourists and plenty of Vietnamese looking for an escape from city life. At 1500 metres above sea level it is perfectly situated for thriving agriculture. Tomatoes, strawberries, flowers, tea, coffee and even grapes are all cultivated here. Wine is also produced but it's only worth trying once, and we really mean that! Simply being part of this relaxed environment, whether in town or the surrounding countryside, is worth the visit alone but if you are looking for something more to do then read on.

From our Dalat hotels, it's worth seeking out the Crazy House. No, this isn't a lunatic asylum, but it seems to have been designed by a lunatic. Resembling some kind of termites nest from the outside, the inside is full of bizarrely linked ramps and steps which make for an entertaining attraction. For a less strange way to spend an afternoon head to Xuan Huong Lake. Hire a small boat and drift around the calm waters peacefully. A walk around the lake is also recommended. Further out of town are the Pongour Falls which stretch over 100 metres wide and 30 metres high to create an impressive spectacle worth capturing on your camera.
