Our Bangkok accommodation is the perfect base to experience all the city's colour and culture.
Thailand was never colonised and thus kept its unique culture and heritage intact and this is especially evident at the city's 400 Buddhist temples. There are three principal temples in Bangkok, Wat Ratchaburana, Wat Ratchapradit and Wat Mahathat. However, it is worth taking a trip outside the main city to visit Wat Arun and the Grand Palace, located on opposite banks of the Chao Phraya River, at Thon Buri. Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of the Dawn, contains five prangs, or towers, covered in thousands of pieces of multicoloured Chinese porcelain. The Grand Palace is not to be missed and the complex also contains the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Bangkok is surely a shopper's paradise, and our Bangkok accommodation is the perfect base for all your shopping adventures. While Bangkok department stores have fixed prices, most shops and market stalls expect customers to barter and depending on your skill and the shopkeeper's mood, prices can be reduced 10 to 40 percent. When bartering keep in mind that Thais admire good manners and a sense of humour. If you are after a bargain and want to experience the local colour of a Bangkok market visit the Chatuchak Weekend Markets open every Saturday and Sunday, with 9000 stalls selling everything from handicrafts and traditional Thai musical instruments to clothing and shoes. While staying in one of our Bangkok hotels, soak up local culture by visiting Siam Niramit cultural theme complex, which offers an 80 minute performance featuring three stories of Thailand's heritage. Or visit Lumpini Stadium Rama IV, to see a Muay Thai (Thai kick boxing) match. Or take a cruise along the canals, also known as klongs, and experience the different way of life of the klong dwellers. Or, finally, see the impressive barges used in the Royal river processions at the Royal Barge Museum. The most impressive and important boat on display is the King's personal barge, built in 1911 from a single tree, it is 46 m long and covered with intricate gilt carvings and colourful pieces of glass. Wotif.com also has great rates on Phuket hotels and accommodation throughout Thailand. |
